Mine is WAITING FOR THEM TO SHOW UP.

Their arrival window is 8:00 - 10:00. I know it's just 9:30 but i'm already tired of waiting. Show up, already!

What's yours?

1. I hear you.
One time, I was waiting for the cable guy to show up. I got a call that came up as "restricted number" on my caller ID, so I let the voice mail get it. It was the cable guy. Rather than leave a message, or a simple heads-up, he left. I guess that was my only call.

2. The same one.
What IS it with service people who promise to be there during a particular window and don't bother to call when they can't make it on time (or at all)? You wait and wait and wait, and nothing. I get to the point where either hubby or I will call the main office and check on the service person's whereabouts. We're not trying to cause trouble or anything, but our time is just as valuable as theirs. Kinda like waiting in a doctor's office for hours...after 30 minutes have passed after your appointment time, you should check with the front desk to find out what's taking so long. If they say something like they're overbooked, then you should come back another day if it's not an acute problem or an emergency. My mother actually asked a doctor to knock down some of her bill because he kept her waiting for two hours and she lost time at work. And you know what? He did! :)

Yeah, that kind of thing pisses me off too. :grr: If they'd just call to say they were running behind or something...

4. Hi, Heidi. I wonder if such things are different in Europe than over here
in the Barbarian States.

???

PS how're you? :hi:

6. I think it's the part of Switzerland we live in bertha.
Or at least that's what everyone tells me. CMW and I have waited as long as a week for a plumber to get here. My mother-in-law says everyone down here in Ticino is a little more relaxed, laid back, not so quick to get really concerned that a person's sewer line has broken, frozen and is causing a catastrophe in the downstairs bathroom. :grr:

(I'm OK, gf. How'ere you? Your nephew, Ginger, sends head-butts and toe-bites.)

10. Horry clap!
We're good, except Daddy has to go to the vet today. His asthma has returned with summer heat. Pobrecita.

Petey sends back lots of finger licks & bites.

5. That's mine as well.
:grr:

It took Comcast three weeks and five appointments to finally show up and hook up my internet back in April.

7. Yikes!
I will give the Swiss phone companies credit: they're relatively fast when it's a new installation. But we were without telephone service for a few days last winter because of problem on the line. :eyes:

11. The guys to replace my window showed up at 10:30. They speak
Russian or something. That's a generalization, i know, but i don't know what language it is.

Anyway, it's very cool to listen to.

Remember Jamie Lee Curtis in "A Fish Called Wanda?" When John Cleese spoke Russian and she squirmed around like a cat in heat?

I'm not squirming, but still, it's very cool to listen to them talk.

13. Ach -- it's Ukranian!
I just had a chat with the head guy. Taras? is his name. He is too smart to be installing windows.

15. Though I don't speak it
My ancestry is Ukrainian - both my parents (and their siblings) speak (or spoke, in the case of my mom) it.

It always sounded like they were spitting the wrath of god at me.

16. that's how i felt when my grandmother spoke German
I always felt she was mad at me.

Last time I saw her I had to tell her, "you are my grandmother" -- and she got it only when I said it in German.

12. The only thing worse than the fantasy time window
is when the service person who does show up is so poorly trained that you're convinced it's his/her first day on the job.

14. Mine too
I especially like the cable TV people. "Someone will be there between 8-5." That's all freaking day! And I am suppsoed to just wait around for you? But on the other hand, when FEDEX says they'll be there to pick up a package between 330 and 530, you can count on them being there earlier rather than later. In fact the other day he was here at 330 exactly.
