Man Pays Speeding Ticket 52 Years Later
<snip>

PHILADELPHIA -- Better late than never.

That's how a British man felt about paying a speeding ticket he received in Philadelphia's Fairmount Park nearly 52 years ago.

Park officials received a letter and a five-pound note this week from John Gedge, who's now 84 and living in a nursing home in East Sussex, England.

Five pounds was worth about $14 in 1954, and about $9 today.

Gedge was visiting Philadelphia on July 15, 1954, when a Fairmount Park guard nabbed him for driving 55 mph in a 35 mph-zone.

Gedge recently discovered the unpaid citation in the pocket of an old coat.

He told The Philadelphia Inquirer by telephone that he thought, "Blimey, I've got to pay."

He said, "Englishmen pay their debts."

He said now his conscience is clear.

1. How did he go so long without getting arrested?
I was cuffed and searched for two parking tickets that were only about two months overdue...and I hadn't even recieved a notice about them!!! They were supposed to be paid by my employer. Yeah, it only took me going into work with my bail receipt saying, "I got arrested at 1am last night. I thought you paid these." Oh well, he was a fucker and it ended up costing him three times the money. Plus, due to the idiocy of the cops, I ended up with a funny story.

3. If he got it in Denville, NJ...

they probably would have extradited him. Although the retarded cops that arrested me were Madison, NJ's "finest."
