What the hell is wrong with (some) Freecyclers?
Offer: Three pair of women's shoes.
White sandals, size 7.5
Beige pumps, size 8
Brown tennis shoes, size 7.5

I figured, OK, I could use some tennis shoes and sandals, I wear a 7.5, what the hell. I responded and the lady gave me pickup info. Take the whole lot, re-freecycle what doesn't work. Right by my work. Excellent.

I picked them up today at lunch.

Received: Five pairs of women's shoes
Beige sandals, size 9
White sandals, size undetermined
Orange pumps, size 8.5
Brown high-top athletic shoes, size undetermined
Black ballet-style flats, size 6

Why bother listing this stuff if you're not gonna list these accurately? I'm going to try on the sandals and the athletic shoes. I don't care if the pumps fit or not; they're hideous. The rest won't even come close. I'm gonna re-Freecycle the rest, ACCURATELY.

I understand leaving off a .5 or something, or just saying "bag o'shoes" and leaving it at that...but there wasn't a single thing except maybe the white sandals/size undetermined that was listed correctly.

1. That's just perverse
being specific and inaccurate. :wtf:

2. I know, it's weird.
I've given away stuff on freecycle, and if I can't be accurate, I won't be specific.

Example:
Big box of unidentified power cords, connectors and Mac computer cables
Three boxes of women's clothing (around size 6-8, some petite), shoes (size 7.5, give or take), purses
One microwave cart, Acme Brand, model #153454, missing wheels

When I re-freecyle the shoes, it's just going under "assorted women's shoes, sizes 6-9, winner take all and pass along what you don't need."

4. I've never heard of Freecycling!
Though it sounds like a great idea.

I thought this was going to be a thread about freepers!!

5. In general, Freecycling is a great thing.
If you have stuff you don't want, that's still usable, but you don't want to go through the hassle of selling (or, perhaps, it's a big piece of furniture and you have no way of getting it anywhere), list it on Freecycle and someone will probably want it. I've gotten rid of computer equipment, a microwave stand, clothes and other stuff that way.

I very rarely take, but frequently offer stuff. Problem when you offer stuff is that people don't show up when they say they're going to -- which isn't a big deal for a bag left on the porch, but it is if it's something that needs to be lifted from inside the house.

6. I am on a FreeCycle list, but what pisses me off is when
people list pets for free. I usually send them info about the dangers of giving away pets to just anyone. Dogs could be used as bait dogs and small animals could be used as snake food.

7. They do that on Craigslist, too.
I want to cry when I see some of those listings.

I hate the ones that say something like: "We got a rabbit for our son last year but now he is tired of it. Come get it -- it's yours." Aaargh.
