4. Thanks. Brings back many memories.
About 20 years ago I commuted to the Wall Street area through the WTC doing some consulting work. I just loved wandering around the city during lunch and after work. Trinity church held lunchtime concerts that were so uplifting and life enriching. 25 cent trips on the Staten Island ferry! I still remember the nighttime views from the stern of the ferry looking back at NYC (and the Towers). Five to six hours of a round trip commute got to be too much after a couple of years. But, it was great while it lasted!

Have you seen this link to a streaming webcam at Times Square? Complete with sound! I'll sometimes use it for background white noise while surfing the net.

6. Wain, that site it pretty cool! Except the white noise only contains
OCCASIONAL car horns blowing. When you're there, it's just such a jumble of noises!

10. So Radio Lady went past Radio City
and went to the Museum of Radio and Television.

How appropriate. :-)

12. Yes, it was like a walk through a part of my own history!
I worked at NBC, 30 Rockefeller Plaza, New York, NY in the 1960s. I was a production assistant for Dick Carson, Johnny Carson's brother, on the original "Tonight Show" unit, before they took the show to Burbank, California. Also, I did some work for the news department. After that, I worked for WPIX on 42nd Street, in the Promotion Department.

The Museum of Radio and Television was really fun. They were showing a retrospective of Super Bowl commercials the day I was there, and some other interesting kinescopes from the past available on demand. For anyone in media, particularly women, it's a real time capsule!

14. Nice pics
Looks like you had a good time. I went to the city once, back in 1974. Did a day tour of the Museum of Natural History and a night tour of Max's Kansas City. What a visit that was.

23. Knocked your socks off in 1974? Try it today, if you get another chance.
Wish I could be there on September 11, 2006. I'm sure it will be a massive memorial day.

15. Great pics - thank you for posting them
It just makes me yearn to return there, which I'm going to do in November for 10 days - I can't wait. I've done a lot of the touristy things - this time I'm just going to wander and explore. I'll be there for Election Day, so I hope to find a good place to celebrate the Dem sweep of Congress.

Thanks again !!!

16. What did my mother used to say? "From your lips to God's ears!"
Edited on Sat Jun-24-06 03:14 PM by Radio_Lady
Do try to wander down to Ground Zero -- either bus or subway will take you there. The small church adjacent to the site has heart rending tributes and momentoes, and perhaps by that time where will be more progress on the actual memorial.

We were last in NYC in November 2001, right after the World Trade Center attacks. We had pre-planned the trip prior to 9/11/01, and my husband insisted on going there to pay our respects. It was a nightmare scenario, and the stench was horrible. We can never forget that visit. People actually thanked us for coming because tourist business dried up almost completely that holiday season.

On a lighter note, you won't be far from the Brooklyn Bridge -- if you like to walk, it's quite interesting to at least go out halfway and then come back. Of course, all of this will depend on the weather. November can be nice, or nasty.

We missed taking the ferry to Ellis Island -- it was something I wanted to do, but just too many choices!

No matter how many times I go to New York, I never get tired of it. There is just so much to do and see.

In peace,

Radio_Lady

Hope you get there soon!

Shots that capture good atmospheric perspective really fire my imagination. Thanks for sharing these - I never tire of NYC either! :)

Would you believe me if I told you I was thinking about NYC just about 2 hours ago? I was thinking about how vibrant the city is...I really need to take hubby there. He's never been there. This was just a reminder for me to take him as soon as possible!

27. Nice photos :) I can /almost/ see my old house in some of the shots
of the Brooklyn Bridge
I used to live in that X-shaped building in the upper right (across the street from the NY Post and within throwing distance of the apartment of Julius & Ethel Rosenburg -- It's the Alfred E. Smith projects. You can click on the thumbnail for a larger view)

You lived in the Alfred E. Smith projects. Was that a long time ago? Wonder who's living there now?

Thanks for the post, qnr.

know, some of my family still lives there. I don't keep in touch with them though.

32. Thanks for the compliment -- and what a sweet and smart cat!

Pitter-pat speaks for all felines when he says "Felines all over the world support the right of all people to be married, regardless of the gender of the people in the relationship."

"You da man (or woman), Pitter-pat!"

Here is Pitter-pat being pensive, considering all the global problems we are facing.

And here he is, doing what he does best- sleeping.

35. At pet stores, there are now several types of washes that can be
rubbed on cats. It's the saliva from their licking you're allergic to. This apparently counter-acts whatever it is that you are allergic to. We have had great success with this for our allergic friends.

36. We're retired and we travel the world. Just can't have the responsibility
of a pet anymore. (But thanks for the information. I thought it was cat dander that I am allergic to; is it just cat spit? Damn! Learn something new every day!)

Seriously, we've raised five children and innumerable pets (mostly dogs, a couple of cats when I was very young, hamsters, white mice, gerbils, goldfish, to name a few...)

This year, we have three more vacations planned, and we've already been to Phoenix, Tucson, Edinburgh, London, and New York City... and the year is not even half over -- well, it will be next week.

Next up is July's trip to Whistler, BC, Canada, then in August, back to Victoria and Nanaimo, BC, Canada. In October, barring anything unforseen like major hurricanes, we fly to Ft. Myers and Orlando, Florida, for my 50th High School reunion.

My bill at the local animal boarding kennel would look like the national debt (well, it would be astronomical).

However, I talk to almost every person with a dog or cat when I'm out and around. In London, I saw a Boston Terrier (used to raise them when I was a teenager) and every Cocker Spaniel reminds me of our "Spice" who was killed by a passing car after a snowstorm in Massachusetts. There wasn't a better little dog than that! I can get real teary-eyed over pets, you see!
