Name your favorite cafe / Place for Coffee
Mine: The Fuel Cafe in Milwaukee, where I am typing this right now.

Good coffee, and the veggie quessadillas are to die for.

...great vibe. It also as a quaint little bookstore section, covered patio section, and outdoor area. (It always happens to be directly across the street from that restaurant where Robert Blake's wife was killed).

3. Because you demanded it
In Copacabana, a scant couple blocks from the beach, there's a cafe called Cafe Ina. It's a pun: not only is there a real woman named Ina who runs the place, but cafeina is how they spell caffeine in Portuguese. It's got wonderful pastries too. (Don't forget how much coffee comes from Brazil!)

8. Besides Cafe du Monde in N.O.?
Cafe Milagro, Quepos, Costa Rica--where Mr. MorningGlow and I went on our honeymoon. After a year of renovating our house in time to have the wedding there, we were completely exhausted. No adventure vacation for us--just lounging around--and we did most of it here. Yummy frozen coffee drinks too! 10,000 calories if one. Oh--and good lunches as well.

I miss the place so much! We used to go to N.O. every year till MorningGlow Jr. came along. Mr. MorningGlow is a coffee purist and so takes issue with adding chicory, but I'm good with it! And the beignets, of course. Moooo...

11. Random Order
From the Merc's reviewer:

Random Order
1800 NE Alberta, 331-1420

This little coffee shop is the perfect morning spot to sit down with the ol' laptop and get to work. Beautiful windows spray sunlight across an orderly array of tables and eclectic local artwork, and the place is generally very peaceful and quiet, even when full. As for the coffee, it's topnotch (Stumptown), and it's supplemented by a worthy menu that includes the World Famous Fried Egg Sandwich, various panini-centric items, and a blueberry muffin that will turn your mouth to quivering mush. Seriously. These huge muffins are baked in-house, are absolutely crammed with blueberries, and are as good as anything you'll find anywhere, be it food, money, sex, or drugs. JWS

49. It was a very clean, well-lighted place, yes, with statues.
Model ships and paintings of scenes from the Greece of modern and ancient times. We really had a good time. I want to go back and see what happens at the bar on a Friday or Saturday night when, I'm told, an elderly couple provide live piano music.

But I would go back simply for the onion rings.

It was a good day.

Or the one in Eau Claire?

I've been to the one off 17th Ave, whichever strett that is (11th? 12th?). Very nice.

Guess we missed our window of opportunity for getting to Calgary...closets going for half a mil!

Too rich for our blood. Hell, if we're gonna go up, we might as well heads for BC now....

55. We're in Texas, believe it or not.
But my husband, the cuddly reprehensor, is from Alberta originally and lived in Cowtown for about 8 years.

It's my 2nd home, and we fell in love there. He moved down here to be with me since I had the better job at the time. And he had recently been laid off. Little did we know Bush would take over mere months after our wedding.

I adore Calgary. We were going to move back up around 2001, but then the job markets all collapsed, and there were no jobs. Now, there's no place to live. If you're not Bill Gates, that is.

We missed our chance, and it makes me sad. I'm hoping we could time a move between the crash here and the crash there.

What a godforsaken place to live, too! Blegh.

Actually, that's where reprehensor's dad's family was originally from (they moved to Alberta from South Carolina and Tennessee).

We'll have to get a group together at the James Joyce next time we're up. We just found out our best friend is getting married next June. It's his 2nd, and we're very excited cuz she is awesome. So I'm hoping we can make it up again.

We've become regulars. It's a 10-minute walk from here and the proprietor's a good guy.

I also like Comet (Fuel's sister cafe on the East Side) and Anodyne (which provides the coffee for Comet, and probably Fuel as well).

Or Michelangelo's is nice too. I used to love going in the Fair Trade because it's right across the street from the Caterbury Inn, where I USED to stay when I went there. And before the Caterbury got wireless, I could run in there and surf after I was done at the archives.

But the bastards have changed my happy place (The Canterbury) to condos!!! I HATE THEM!!!

So I'll have to find a new place closer down near the Edgewater, or one on the other side of town near the environmental B & B.
