Postage stamps - aren't they the same price no matter where you buy them?
I'm asking this because I ran up to the little store owned by the people who own the trailer park. I hardly go there, but I needed something quick...they overcharge for everything.

Two guys in front of me want to buy stamps. Thirty-seven cent stamps...and they were told that they would be fifty-five cents each. One guy walked out, the other paid the price for his two stamps.

I haven't run a register in a while, but when i did, we sold books of stamps, and they were rung up as non-taxable items, and were the same price that you would pay at the post office.

Can they do this????????

3. That's what I thought
Once again, I get to bust them! :bounce: :bounce:

I oreviously busted them for slipping stupid newsletters and other notices into the mailboxes without postage. The mailman was just letting them do it...we have a new one now, and they stopped the newsletters. They did, however, start charging us for water, but they have to mail the bills instead of just shoving them in the mailboxes.

6. We're moving out of here at the end of the month anyway
I have paid rent and water here for the last time.

The best part is, the whole stamp thing took TWENTY MINUTES...They've recently hired a new person to work the weekend shift, and she is clueless. She didn't know how to ring up the stamps, and she had to call the owner. The owner told her to charge .55 for a .37 stamp...and when she hung up the phone, she said "That was the bosslady...That was ____ (Insert the owner's name here). No doubt that it came straight from the top.

7. No. They are not allowed to do this.
But most people don't complain, especially here in the city, because they factor in how convenient it is.

11. I know it happens, but I've been told that a deli owner cannot do this.
I've been searching the internets for an answer so I hope we can figure this one out.

13. My experience has been paying forty cents for a single stamp.
Edited on Mon Jun-19-06 12:01 AM by JackBeck
And that's when it cost 32 cents a stamp.

I guess where there's miscommunication is that when I went to a deli to buy a stamp, ONE stamp, they were supposed to sell me it a face value, but marked it up.

Is that legal?

8. Yes it is perfectly legal
Most mailbox joints like Kinkos, UPS, and independent packing and shipping stores will sell US postage stamps at a mark up.
