Isn't it bizarre when someone you've never really interacted with on DU
has you on ignore?

I just went to pm someone to compliment them on something and got the "this user doesn't accept personal messages" screen. I know others have communicated with this person via pm.

Weird.

3. It's FASCIST to put people on "Ignore."
Although the list of people who ignore me is likely long and illustrious, I ignore no one.

18. Ignore is good for timeouts.
Sometimes when a poster goes off on a topic I use ignore for a few days. Keeps me from thinking of the person as an arse, which is good because on other topics I may find the person's posts to be insightful.

25. I try to avoid flaming. My "ignore" button is in my head.
Otherwise hearing the voice of the Pig Bush while driving would make me steer for a lightpole.

32. It's not fascist at all.
There are a great number of people that, simply put, CANNOT be reasoned with under any circumstances. Is it worth the time and anxiety to bother dealing with these people whom, if you knew them in person, would go out of your way not to encounter? I say no.

I don't understand why anyone would have anybody on ignore. If you want to read what they have to offer, fine, if not, proceed.

14. Some people are *told* whom they are expected to put on ignore.
So that they can go on posting passive-agressive flames (and in many cases, outright lies) without having to see the responses.

I have an ignore list. It's full of violent-minded assholes, and there is much less stress in my life not having to read their bullshit.

But if the whole purpose of having an ignore list is so you can taunt people without being challenged? That's fucking cowardice of the highest order.

I found I had someone on ignore a few months ago - yet I've never put anyone on ignore on purpose. Must have been an errant click somewhere along the line.

20. Yes, that's bizarre, but I've heard of such things before...
And I remember from way back when we were in the mod forum that some folks would put others on ignore just out of principle. You might have said somewhere on the board that you feel this or that or that you respect whosiewhatsis; and just that very day the poster you refer to made some strange vow to put on ignore those with those opinons.

In other words, don't take it personally. If it isn't someone that knows you well, it can't really mean very much that they've no desire to change that.

26. Could it have been an accident on their part? I recently found
out that I had somehow put a good DUer on Ignore. I like this poster, and I have no idea how it came to be that they got on my Ignore list. And I don't know how long they were on there, either. I quickly removed them from the list.

27. If you ignore people, don't you have to do more than one? I mean, isn't
the whole POINT of the thing that the very existence of that person offends you so much, that you don't want to see their name on threads reminding you... but if you only have one, then you'll always know it's that person when you see the "Ignored" LOL.
