Recently, we bought our first digital camera. The first trip we took it on was when we went to Sedona and Grand Canyon. We are hikers. We hiked all around Sedona. We didn't schedule to go to the floor of Grand Canyon (that is, most likely, next April,) but we did do a day hike about a mile and a half or so down Bright Angel trail.
Enjoy!
One of our first hikes in Sedona was along this beautiful creek (which we also hiked along later on a different trail.)
Mr. kt is standing near the creek. What is really beautiful is how the water flows over these rocks that are perfectly smooth from years of water passing over them. The red rock and the contrast of the red color with the greens of the plants and the blue of the sky we found incredible.
Mr. kt is on the trial to Cathedral Rock. Again, look at the contrasting colors. How beautiful is that?!?
Here is Cathedral Rock in the background and the creek in the foreground. Notice the little duck on the rock. He is in a photo below.
This little duck was sitting on the rock in an earlier photo. He swam right up to us! He was very interested in the camera!
This is just a few feet away from where the little duck was checking out our camera. He and his little web-footed friends swam right over and went down the small water fall. It was really, really cute!
After we passed Cathedral Rock, we took another trail, which eventually fell alongside this beautiful creek. Here I am, thigh-high, in the creek!
After Sedona, we went to Grand Canyon. It is amazing how the deer just walk right up to you. Never touch the animals! It is dangerous and the park takes that as a serious offense. This little one stood there eating while I snapped his picture. Never stopped eating... clearly they are use to the paparazzi!
Before we began our decent, we looked out a while on the Rim Trail, near the lodges. This little squirrel was gazing out on his home. He was just sitting there, observing all the life that thrives in Grand Canyon.
I just love this picture. A tree limb was a few feet in front of me. Look how far out the peaks inside the Canyon actually are. I love the colors... reds, blues, purples, oranges... all hues that represent different times through Grand Canyons creating.
Here is a series of pictures as we descended down the Bright Angel trail. There is a formation known as the battleship. I used this as a reference point in the pictures so it would be easier to judge exactly how deep into the Canyon we had traveled. The picture below is a terrible picture of me. It was taken after our Grand Canyon hike, but I included it here because in the background, on the left hand side, is the Battleship. This was taken at Kolb Studio, on the Lookout Site, and the camera was zoomed in a bit, but you get the idea of the size of the Battleship!
The Bright Angel trail extends all the way. At the very end is Plateau Point, which has amazing views. From there, you follow the trail to the floor. The Battleship is on the left.
Mr. kt is standing in a tunnel near the top of the Bright Angel trail head.
The following pictures is from the Bright Angel Trail as we descended, and then turned around and dragged ourselves back up the trail. (Bright Angel is a good one to go up. There is more shade than the South Kabib trail and in the spring and summer seasons, there is water available. Plus- there are bathrooms!) Notice the Battleship and our distance relative to it as we go down and back up.
This is a rotten picture of me, but notice the red colored dirt and rocks. I live in Southern California, I don't have that kind of rock in the Los Angeles area that I live in.
There is so much life down in the Canyon. Besides the different plants and trees, there are lizzards...
... the mule trains...
... squirrels...
... and they are attempting to reintroduce the California Condor back into the area. This is Condor #97. He was sitting near the tunnel that Mr. kt was standing in earlier. We watched him fly all over this particular area of the Canyon. What elegance and beauty.
Here is Mr. kt and I after our hike, cleaned up and ready to watch the sunset. This was taken at Kolb Studio at the Lookout Site.
I really can't get enough of Grand Canyon. On the last day, we went out to Mather Point and took a few pictures.
