Women of DU, tell me about these shoes
I've seen a lot of women wearing this type of shoe in the past six months to a year or so:

These kind of rubbery clogs with holes in them. WTF! How are those considered useful? Don't the rub your feet raw? Do you think they look fashionable? I'm totally at a loss here. Did I miss the rubber clog memo?

5. Yes, that's what they're for
Edited on Sat Jun-24-06 04:44 PM by supernova
originally... gardening. They've since migrated to health care because HC workers stand on their feet all day. You see them a lot in hospitals.

And then there are Molto Mario's famous ORANGE clogs. :P

6. maybe... but I see them everywhere
the mall, restaurants, the movies, etc.... Like they're a regular shoe. Are they actually comfortable? They sure as heck don't look it.

29. Yes, they are surprisingly comfy!
I got a pair for camp shower shoes and gardening and they are really very comfortable, stay on your feet and are well ventilated for wearing in hot weather. I can't wear them as regular shoes because I need a lift added to one shoe, but I would if I could...:)

9. My sister got a pair to walk around Vegas in
She said they were the most comfortable shoes, ever. She wore them with some little footie socks so her feet wouldn't sweat. I think they're ugly but can see wearing them to the beach or for gardening.

Ugly shoe thread.

Please consult the DU Rules for the types of shoe allowed in discussion. (Strappy sandals and dom boots are always okay.)

11. Butt ugly is the first thought that comes to mind.
However, this type of clog is sold in gardening departments, and that would make sense. But to wear them anywhere else? Eeeeew!

I saw them in Las Vegas -- sold by stall vendors in the malls

They're colorful, and reportedly very comfortable, too.

They remind me of the old "Space Shoes" my father used to wear. Are those still around?

13. I thought they were those heavy rubber garden clogs too, but they're not.

I tried a pair on this week at my sister's urging. They are the newest thing and they are pretty comfortable. Apparently the lightweight foam they are made of conforms to your foot via body heat, while all the airholes keep your feet dry and comfy (unlike the rubber garden clogs that make your feet sweat within the first few minutes). They come in a rainbow of colors in both men's and women's sizes. They are sorta cool, but I wasn't going to dish out $20 - $25 for them.

I agree about the ugly, though.

They stick to surfaces when you walk and trip you. My dog likes to go after my shoes so he stole them..for some reason he can't chew them up no matter how he tries so they are good for something

24. Yep.
They're very comfy for a 12 hour shift and can be cleaned easily in terms of "certain things" nurses can be exposed to.

Would I wear them outside the hospital? Um, no.

16. I first saw ones similar to these about 5-6 years ago in a hospital.
They didn't have the holes in them.
The nurses loved them because they had good arch support and they could throw them in the washing machine with their uniforms.

17. I have a pair and I love them!
I use them to garden in. They wash out nicely, even with your feet in them, and don't retain the stains from the smutz in the garden. Then I go shopping in them. They are about the most comfortable shoe I've ever owned. Like going barefoot without the worry of stepping on sharp things. They are very soft and springy to walk in. I wish I could wear them in the winter, but they are a tad air-conditioned for winter wear in this area. I need to buy a back up pair before they go out of style.

19. Those shoes are very popular here with children, men and women.
For that reason alone I refuse to own a pair. I don't think they look anything other than ridiculous on men but I don't like men in tennis shoes or cowboy boots either.

No, really. People were wearing them in Nebraska 2 years ago. Which actually means they're so THREE seasons ago.

Plus, they're ugly. And they smell like foot sweat.

and now a fad. Gardening. All sorts of things. Same with flip flops only more comfortable.

I think they're ugly as hell. He insists their comfortable and that he likes the way they look. He's a gay man with the fashion sense of a straight man though.

32. They're Crocs
They're great for boating. They don't slip...they're more comfortable than going barefoot, they stay cool and they don't smell (even for people who normally have smelly feet). They're also good for gardening. You can wear them with the strap up like in the picture, or down to go around the back of your foot. Don't buy the cheap imitations....
