Gardening Advice Needed: #$@*% Aphids!!!

Aphids are the only thing keeping me from putting fresh cilantro in my chili.

I sprayed Fit on the herbs and rinsed them heavily with water. Should they be alright?

1. According to website for Try Fit....
"As a general rule of thumb, the Fit Soak method is best for:
Produce that is difficult to hold or difficult to rub
Produce that has lots of nooks and crannies, like lettuce, spinach, broccoli, and cauliflower ******
Large quantities of easy-to-hold produce, for example, several apples for a pie, or baked potatoes for a large family
The Fit Spray method is the best for produce that is easily held in your hands and is simple to rub."

Some cooks wouldn't use that cilantro at all because of the eewww bugs. I'd think it would be like gritty lettuce from the garden. You can do the Fit soak, rinse well, then pat with paper towel. Enjoy the chili!

2. I ended up using it anyway.
I carefully inspected the cilantro to make sure it was bug-free. If not- well, I could use the protein...

3. Lady bugs
You need some lady bugs. They eat aphids, I think.

4. Lacewings are better...
They tend to stay in the area where they're released.

5. I recently learned about Diatomaceous Earth.
http://www.ghorganics.com/DiatomaceousEarth.html

"How does it work?
To insects DE is a lethal dust with microscopic razor sharp edges. These sharp edges cut through the insect's protective covering drying it out and killing them when they are either dusted with DE or if it applied as a wettable powder spray. If they ingest the DE it will shred their insides."

"What insects can DE be used for?
Diatomaceous Earth may be used as a barrier to control adult flea beetles, sawfly, coddling moth, twig borer, thrips, mites, cockroach, slugs, snails and many other insects such as:
Aphids, thrips, earwigs, silverfish, and ants. Can be used for bedbugs, cabbage root flies, carrot root flies, fleas, pillbugs, ticks and is helpful in dealing with fungus gnats"

I used Diatomaceous Earth on an anthill, now they're gone.
