Am I reading this right?? RE: The FCC and the "F" word on TV?
That it is now acceptable as long as it is used as an adjective. F&*king A!

-snip-

Richie's bad words come two months after a little-noticed -- and, many say, nonsensical -- ruling by the Federal Communications Commission that appeared to sanction what government officials called "the F-word," as long as it is used as an adjective. Critics say the decision further unleashed the potty mouths they believe are taking over radio and television.
-snip-

The FCC, charged with enforcing indecency and obscenity standards on the public airwaves, issued a ruling in October regarding the utterance of the "F-word" during a Fox broadcast in January.

During the live Golden Globe Awards broadcast in January, Bono -- frontman for the Irish rock group U2 -- received an award and exulted, "This is really, really brilliant!"

The FCC's enforcement bureau ruled that Bono's utterance was neither indecent nor obscene because it did not describe a sexual function.

1. Disgusting
Some words are not socially acceptable, especially for children. 'Fuck' is one of them.

2. Did I read it right?
Can you use the "F" word as long as it is an adjective?

4. I think you are right. . .
. . .but if he had said "effing Bush messed it up" it would have been ok under new rules written by MICHAEL POWELLS FCC that have benefitted the FOX NETWORK. How rich is that?

5. Yes.
It was announced a few weeks ago that the word can be used, as an adjective...just not in Prime Time.

6. Clarification?
"just not in Prime Time" or "not just in Prime Time"?

If it's the latter, that is really f$#@ed up. :)

Kids could be watching.

Idiot FCC.

7. Not in prime?
So then techinically Bono and Nicole Richie (our the networks) are still in violation because both of those f-bombds came in prime time.

8. That is about the silliest thing I've read this week.
Personally, I think the overuse of the word as an adjective shows a lack of creative speech. Secondly, sexual functions are neither "indecent" nor "obscene" (most of the time).

I just don't get it. Sex is okay to sell deodorant; but don't talk about it. We shall continue to be entertained by watching people find new and better ways to shoot/slice/blow each other to bits; as long as they aren't f---ing. The FCC has spoken.

11. no need to suspect - look at the profits
Since 1997, when the first FCUK campaign appeared, French Connection's profits have soared from £6.4m to £19m and its share price has rocketed from around 300p to 775p.

Chief executive Stephen Marks, whose 61% stake in the company is now worth £90m, attributes this to the controversial advertising.

It's not just on the bags - they do several teeshirts and so on with various slogans incorporating 'FCUK' - eg 'FCUK Fashion', "FCUK Like a Bunny", etc.

10. I knew this was going to happen when Felix Unger punched the envelope
Tony Randall.

On the Odd Couple Randall was helping Oscar coach a team (football-basketball?) and the word "assume" was mentioned. He proceeded to write it on a chalkboard and dissect it. ASS/U/ME When you ASSUME you make an ass out of u and me......

That is often cited as breaking the barrier.

12. I think that's 'ass' as in 'donkey'
because in Britain we say 'make an ass', not 'make an arse'. So it's perfectly clean.

14. Don't forget when he told Oscar to...
..."beat the hell" out of Felix's girlfriend, Miriam (played by Elinor Donohue) in the episode when they were learning self defense after being mugged. That, as well as the time you spoke of, are the only two times they ever swore on the show.

Just the fact that I know such minutia speaks volumes about my social life...

16. At the time the FCC thought The Odd Couple was the kind of show to do it
Sort of like Frasier today, they wouldn't let any lowerbrow shows be the first.

15. Fuck is a good word..
I'm glad it's finally going to be allowed on tv. As a kid, I heard that word everyday. Kids hear that word all the time. I'm all for it being on tv. 'Bout fucking time. Now this country isn't as stiff as I thought it to be....

Just when are they going to allow nudity......?
