Movie soundtracks
On another message board, we were discussing movie soundtracks, which was best.

One said "Pearl Harbor," another said "Dances With Wolves," others said "Fast and Furious," "Star Wars," and so on.

I said just one word.

"Amadeus."

The rest of the board cried no fair, that one beats them all, you win, and such. :-)

1. Yeah, that would shut them up. :-)
My God, no composer today can possibly hold a candle to Mozart.

My current favorite film composer is John Barry. His best score, IMO, was for "The Lion in Winter". Beautiful.

11. I'm fond of Thomas Newman.
I like Georges Delerue (sp?) -- he scored "Steel Magnolias" -- and Randy Newman, but I especially like Thomas Newman's movie music.

Thomas Newman has scored (just a few):

American Beauty
Six Feet Under
The Shawshank Redemption
The Green Mile
Finding Nemo
Boston Public
In the Bedroom
Road to Perdition
Citizen Cohn
Fried Green Tomatoes

13. Besides the fine list you provided....
Thomas Newman also wrote the theme to "Six Feet Under", which I like very much.

7. How about "The Fly"
Has anything been more musically intense than that which was playing when Geena Davis blew out the brains of the Fly at the end of the movie?
