1. Isn't "Black and Tan" offensive?
Don't real Irishmen refer to that as a half-and-half? I heard that somewhere, don't know if it's true or not. Come to think of it, I don't even know if I'm on the same topic you are.

3. The reason I got was because the "Black and Tans"
were a gang of thugs and killers brought in by the British to suppress Irish Republicans (Irish Republicans and American Republicans being clean different things).

Here's a quick link: http://www.historylearningsite.co.uk/black_and_tans.htm

6. Come out ye Black and Tan
Edited on Sat Dec-13-03 11:00 PM by The Lone Liberal
I was born on a Dublin street where the Royal drums do beat
And the loving English feet they tramped all over us,
And each and every night when me father'd come home tight
He'd invite the neighbors outside with this chorus:

Oh, come out you black and tans,
Come out and fight me like a man
Show your wives how you won medals down in Flanders
Tell them how the IRA made you run like hell away,
From the green and lovely lanes in Killashandra.
Come let me hear you tell
How you slammed the great Pernell,
When you fought them well and truly persecuted,
Where are the smears and jeers
That you bravely let us hear
When our heroes of sixteen were executed.

Come tell us how you slew
Those brave Arabs two by two
Like the Zulus they had spears and bows and arrows,
How you bravely slew each one
With your sixteen pounder gun
And you frightened them poor natives to their marrow.

The day is coming fast
And the time is here at last,
When each yeoman will be cast aside before us,
And if there be a need
Sure my kids wil sing, "Godspeed!"
With a verse or two of Steven Beehan's chorus

7. Another one..
In 19 hundred and 16, the forces of the crown,
Did take the orange, white, and green, bombarded Dublin town,
But in '21, Britannia's sons were forced to earn their pay,
And the Black and Tans like lightning ran from
The rifles of the IRA.

They burned their way through Munster and laid Leinster on the rack,
In Connaught and in Ulster marched the men of brown and black,
They shot down wives and children in their own heroic way,
And the Black and Tans like lightning ran from
The rifles of the IRA.

They hanged young Kevin Barry high, a lad of eighteen years,
Cork City's flames lit up the sky but our brave boys knew no fear.
The Cork brigade with hand grenades in ambush waiting lay,
And the Black and Tans like lightning ran from
The rifles of the IRA.

The Tans were caught, taken out and shot by the brave and valiant few,
Sean Treacy, Denny Lacey, and Tom Barry's gallant crew,
Though we're not free yet, we won't forget until our dying day,
How the Black and Tans like lightning ran from
The rifles of the IRA.

12. Like I was told one night in pub in Killarney

When I requested the Patriots Game ,its going to be a bloody night.

Come all you young rebels and list while I sing
For the love of one's country is a dangerous thing
For it banishes fear like the speed of a flame
And it makes us all part of the Patriot Game

My name is O'Hanlan and I've just gone 16
My home is in Mahnagh, that's where I was weaned
I've read about heroes and I wanted the same
Just to play out my part in the Patriot's Game

Been nearly two years since I wandered away
With the local battalion of the bold IRA
I gave up my boyhood just to drill and to train
And to play out my part in the Patriot's Game

And now as I lie here, my body all holes
Well I think of those traitors who bargained and sold
And I wish that my rifle had given the same
To those Quislings, those low down quislings
Who sold out my Patriot Game.

14. Let's not forget the Men Behind the Wire.
Armoured cars and tanks and guns
Came to take away our sons
But every man must stand behind
The men behind the wire

Through the little streets of Belfast
In the dark of early morn
British soldiers came marauding
Wrecking little homes with scorn

Heedless of the crying children
Cragging fathers from their beds
Beating sons while helpless mothers
Watched the blood poor from their heads

Not for them a judge and jury
Nor indeed a trial at all
But being Irish means you´re guilty
So we´re guilty one and all

Round the world the truth will echo
Cromwell´s men are here again
England´s name again is sullied
In the eyes of honest men.

Proud we march behind our banner
Firm we´ll stand behind our men
We will have them free to help us
Build a nation once again

On the people step together
Proudly firmly on their way
Never fear never falter
Till the boys are home to stay

9.  Anyone ever read "A star called henry"
Good story about the Irish Rebellion focused around a boy named Henry Smart. It's fiction, but the histrical bases are correct.

10. No, I did read Leon Uris' "Trinity"
and was put off by his POV, but I was very young then. Maybe I'd feel differently if I read it today.
