I got no "Christmas Spirit" whatsoever.
Indeed, tonight my GF actually called me a "Cynic". Yeah, well, I'm not the only one from what I see. Go shopping, and I've never seen so many damned miserable-looking people in my life.I don't have any money this year, I don't know what to get my daughter, My GF spent more on me than I have to spend on her,(how many times do I have to tell her that nothing would make me happier than a little "Piece on Earth", screw the presents...) and I'm just tired of all the "Buy! Buy! Do your part to save Murka! BUY something, f'christ's sake!" bullshit.

And don't EVEN get me started on how many young folks are living someplace they don't really need to be.

Hey thanks!
Glad to know I'm not alone. Is it The Chimp? His "Economic Miracle"? Iraq? All the Above?
Seriously, I didn't know whether to break down crying or start raging at people tonight.

2. I love christmas
But I hate having to tell people what I want. It makes you feel horrible to ask for stuff. Give me a cup of coffee and a good chat, maybe a funny card and I'll be happy.

I have lots of christmas spirit though unlike yourself. I don't see it is buying shit. I see it as getting a damn good meal at moms, a chance to talk south american politics with my family, and another special day to spend with the love of my life. Good times.

3. Find your own peace on earth
first, a big hug to you!

then, a Christmas spirit-

...now, I hate Christmas shopping. I don't even really do it. I, also don't have as much money as people in my family, and I'm scatter-brained half the time or find reasons not to go to the post office, or..

anyway, so all I'm saying is that if I want to be in the Christmas spirit, I avoid the malls with a vengence.

what gets me in the Christmas spirit is putting lights on a tree because it makes the world seem special for a little while.

and bake some cookies with somebody, and test a lot of them before you share! :)

I rented Matewan, that happy Christmas movie, to watch after I put up my Christmas tree.

I had to go to the grocery store this evening, which meant I had to get into Christmas shopping traffice...ugh.

it started snowing, so the traffic was even more of a mess, with one car missing the turn into a shopping area and blocking traffic, and when I got out of the grocery store, people were honking their horns at each other because traffic was moving so slowly or was blocked because of the slippery roads...

and I was full of Christmas spirit to know I could to home and not have to be around those people, that I could turn on the lights on my Christmas tree and watch a movie about some people who knew what it really meant to try to come together for some peace on earth and peace of mind and equity.

If I had to spend Christmas time shopping, I would be a Scrooge, because it's really pitiful, to me, to see how aggressive and unhappy people can be trying to spread a little Christmas cheer.

so now the snow is on the ground and the moon is so bright off that snow that I'm ever happier I don't have to spend money to enjoy this time of year.

p.s. your girlfriend doesn't care if you spend "as much money" --so don't sweat it and know that she wants you to be able to enjoy that she can give as well as receive.

you can also give her "gift certificates" for back rubs and things like that...presents which only you can deliver...

4. I know what you mean
I love Christmas, but I hate seeing people upset over it. I have everything I want - but I enjoy buying presents for other people. I guess I take after my mother. She lived to buy Christmas presents for people.

5. It's all a state of mind..
I found myself hating this time of the year, but now I know...it was all due to me feeling sorry for myself. It is just friggin Christmas....enjoy it for what it is. Have a good time and stop being so negative...it is working for me.

Edited on Sun Dec-14-03 02:39 AM by LastKnight
especially if your alone... like i am.

once you duck under the whirling blades of thanksgiving, tiptoe through the minefield of xmas, dodge the bullets of new years, your nailed by that cupid bastard. talk about seasonal depression. i hate bein alone this time of year. that and the comercialisim of christmas, that pisses me off, but thats a whole different thread entirely.

have a happy/merry whatever you celebrate. ill be drudging through it.

8. Does being alone matter??
I have been alone for many Christmas seasons..it doesnt matter. Get over it. If you really wanted someone around for the holidays you would...right? It is just the end of the year, not anything special saying you have to have a significant other.....thats in your head and no one elses...Peace be with you and I wish you luck.

9. My sigline says it all.
I'm crocheting gifts for Christmas this year. Mostly shopping bags. I'm going to tell family to donate to the Dean campaign instead of buying me a present.
