2. And abandon America's children to the Republicans, Vichy Democrats,
Bill Gates and the National Education Association?

Not on your life. I plan on fighting the bastards until I die.

5. Hmm..
sounds like a plan. There's no way in hell I wanna stay here for another four years with Shrub. That would mean I'd have to fight in a war, and I don't want to.

13. I am of draft age
and so are my brothers. my brothers have already left, one to india and another to taiwan, both for ideological reasons. I am still here. our country and all it represented is on the verge of collapse and i can't watch it with a clean conscience from the safety of a neighbor's borders

17. If he is of draft age
(he because males are currently the only ones required to register):

1. He's a legal adult, therefore responsible for his own actions. The decision must be made by him to leave the country. If he reaches registration age after you leave, he still must register even though he is living abroad unless he changes citizenship.

2. He needs to plan to stay out of the country for an extended period if the draft is reinstated and his number is called. There is no statute of limitations on avoiding the draft (unless I've missed some revision).

14. Here come the flames
IMO, those who would leave the country in such a time of need are not worth the effort expended in attempts to get them to stay. Rats leaving the ship is the appropriate metaphor.

Is running away really the answer? Could you look at yourself in the mirror if you left the country, knowing that it will take every effort by every single progressive to get things back on track?

Those who are not willing to stay and fight the good fight are not worth the time spent saying goodbye when there's work to be done. One or two - even three - elections cannot remake this country into anything so terrible that we should abandon it and our fellows just because those elections don't go the way we want.

Leaving is the surest way to guarantee the success of the opposition. You may cast your vote and post on blogs such as this but it's face to face education that pays real dividends at the polls and writes history.

/end rant

19. ok..
you can stay here and suffer another 4 years of Bush hell. I'm going to the Mediterranean and sip colas on the beach, enjoying my freedoms as a human being.

Seriously, if Bush were to get (re)elected, that's it. He's going to take over as dictator. Remember Josef Stalin? If you speak out against Bush at that time, that's it. You're done. Gone. Dead.

But I urge you to reconsider.

Seriously, the Stalin comparison is overboard. Regardless of what has happened, you cannot honestly make that comparison.

on edit: I just noticed this post put me in the 700 Club!

I won't give them the satisfaction of my leaving. I'll stay and fight and bitch and they will have to put up with me. x(
