WHile getting fish medication, I purchased two new fluorescent bulbs. The new bulbs are 248 lux and are 20 watt, 24".

Got home, put in the bulbs, and then saw the sticker saying 18 watt max. :eyes:

The outlet contains sockets for 2 bulbs.

What will happen if I try using the new bulbs?

1. You're ok
Just use 1 bulb though. Total wattage is what counts. If you use 2, it'll just blow out quicker.

3. The voltage is still the same.....
the wattage is only for the amount of currant flowing and (maybe) Heat.

The use of 20 watt bulbs in 18 watt sockets is fine.

9. You'll be ok. It's like putting a 1 watt fuse where a 2 watt will go.
It will just not last as long.

11. If the bulbs have external starters
They may not start if the wattage is too high, or be slow to start.

2w isnt much of a difference though, you should be good.
