I didn't watch any of the coverage of Saddam being captured today
I just didn't want to see any gloating from Chimpy and his henchmen.

This news doesn't change any damn thing about this administration.

A foreign policy that is imperialistic and arrogant to the nth degree. A foreign policy based on lies.

3 million jobs lost in this country. An economic policy that is tilted to the rich. Everyone else gets short shrift from this White House.

A energy policy run by the oil companies. Envrionmental policy that favors the polluters.

Civil liberties under assault as never before. An atmosphere created in this country by this adminstration and the right wing of rancor, divisiviness, paranoia.

Saddam's capture doesn't change one goddammed thing. Goddammit, I want my country back again.

1. Moi aussi
I was woken up by a newsreporter with a local station w/ the news (i'm a faculty member w/ a specialty in the field)---beyond checking out the particulars via online news sources--i've avoided the circle jerk of TV "news" coverage and analysis (stress on the anal)

2. You're right, it doesn't.
But the media will make like it does and many of the American people will believe them. I'm just so sad at what has happened to this country under Bush rule--and I'm talking about both of the Bushes. They sure love to make a big show of parading their defeated former allies in humiliation in front of the cameras, don't they? I'm not the least bit sympathetic to Hussein, but WTF is America doing parading it's captured human booty in front of cameras like some barbaric, facist state? There's something sick about this, and at this time, I can't really pinpoint why I am so repulsed. I guess it's because I feel like America has become like the crowds that cheered on beheadings, drawing and quartering and hangings in earlier days.

5. Isn't this what the Roman Empire did?
Parade defeated heads of state in chains through Rome behind chariots of victorious emporers.

4. Same here...
I've been studying all day. The thing that would probably infuriate me if I watched today would be the media infatuation with *. They should be concentrating on the "serious" contributors to this story like the the non-AWOL types in Iraq who are trying to bail us out of this mess and scored a big one today.

6. Media blackout here, too.
Say the headlines at NYT online, and read the posts here at DU. That's more than enough for me.

This is just a sideshow, and it nakes no impact whatsoever regarding the points so succinctly outlined by terrya above.

7. Same here...I skimmed the headlines of the NYT online
but other than that the only coverage I have read about the capture of Hussein has been on DU and most of that in the Lounge.
