5. Oh my God! I had no F'n idea. Wow. I have to think of how to celebrate!
It will definitely have to be with you folks.
Thanks for letting me know Bridget. And thank all of you for being here in this community that is dedicated to trying to thrash out the truth.

I will tell you all a personal story that I have not shared online before, but it seems appropriate now. Five years ago I was rear ended by an old geezer that hit the gas instead of the brakes. My poor old truck had its frame bent and was totalled... so was I. I have already had to have a hip replacement, shoulder surgery and hand reconstruction and I still have the other hip and hand and both knees to go. Then we start on the back.

But the worst part was the traumatic brain injury from the double whiplash. For a while, my brain was scrambled. It was a month before I could make a sentence. My vision, hearing, dexterity, memory, judgment, concentration and focus were all shot. I felt as if someone with ADHD had a channel changer and was flipping my mind. A rehab counselor (whose boss thought I was a hopeless case) decided I needed a computer! I thought she was nuts. Words were jumping when I tried to read and the glare really killed my eyes. "No problem" she said, and got me hooked up with assist ive technology that could read to me and voice dictation soft wear that does the typing for me. This all sounded nice, but I FELT too disabled to really try... Until I found DU!

All of a sudden, my old passions kicked in and I actually wanted to engage in the battle. Little by little, you all pulled me back into life and living and caring.I still feel the limits of my disabilities and know that I cannot do the work that I used to do, but I feel that through DU and a few other sites that I can be a contributing member of society, someone who can help make the world better.

Thank all of you for your support and for being there foe me in ways that you will never know. I love you. :grouphug:

13. Hello love. Thanks for the party. It is sure a nice break from
dubys dubya three.
Glad you orderded me to get my behind over here. I really did not think that I was so close to this milestone. I was planning on a special post to mark the occasion, but it will have to wait till I can get it together, but I will give you the short version. I have just painted most of the exterior on my house with a homemade paint from a very environmentally friendly old Finnish recipe. It is made of:

water: I used rainwater

flour: I used organic whole wheat flour from our co-op

oil: hempseed oil, imported fron Canada

sulphate: zink sulfate ... a soil enhancer

pigment: I used a special iron oxide chat comes from a reclamation process in Pennsylvania. It is called Environoxide and is just stunning! http://www.environoxide.com/index.html
Available from Hoover Color Company:
http://www.hoovercolor.com/index.htm

It is cooked for about three hours and then never needs scraping again.

No solvents, no VOCs and it cleans up with hot soapy water!

AND it does not support the nasty paint companies that causes so much of the asthma in my area.
I will post more about this soon!

For those of you who can't wait, here is the link for the recipe:
http://www.sateenkaarivarit.fi/uk/index.html
Go to the right hand column and click on General Instructions
then scroll down to "Cooked Paint"

53. Meow. Mom cat always purrs when stroked!
This paint is so great and is so revolutionary. The only shame is that I did not invent it myself!
It is made in a make shift double boiler: One smaller pot resting inside one bigger pot. It is practically prefect. Someday I want to design a solar cooker for it. Maybe next summer.
It smells fresh and clean, doesn't pollute, and is reputed to last for many years in Finland's harsh climate. When you finally want to repaint, just brush off any loose stuff and paint right over the old stuff. Never scrape again!
It goes on easy and cleans up in a snap! It is cheaper to make than it is to buy "regular (:puke:) paint" and it gives the satisfaction of a full fledged environmental superiority dance. :woohoo:

56. I found a couple of big old pots as a cheap store in Brooklyn,
One pair is about 6 gallons, with a 5 gallon insetr. The other pair is about 4 and 3 gallons respectively. I got all four for about forty bucks. For mixing, I just use long cooking spoons.
The tricky part was not getting lumps. I have never been able to make gravey without lumps. Then a friend taught me a trick used by her grandmother ... put the flour in a closed contaner and shake like hell till the lumps are gone. It works!
First you mix the flour, water and sulphate (and a pinch of salt) and cook for about two hours at about 80C ... 175 F. A meat thermometer is good for doing temp checks.

Then add the pigment. Cook and keep stirring for another hour. Add the oil, mix it in, turn off the heat. Let cool overnight and start painting.
The only problem is that it will not stick to ole paint os "synthetic" wood.
The very hardest part was scraping off 110 years of garbage. The painting itself was like a piece of cake after all of that!

it up like thirsty desert soil. If you've ever lived in a desert, you know what happens after a rain there: an explosion of life. They're not places of death as much as places of waiting.

Courage and determined resilience are solitary battles at their base, but we CAN help one another. Thank you for helping me by sharing your story and showing the way.

cannot tell you how many times I came here feeling hopeless and defeated. Somehow the core values we share would spark me to keep trying when I didn't think I had anything left in me. For all its faults, we have a community that errs on the side of love and compassion. May we be blessed in the errors of our ways!

47. I always knew your were very special...This does not surprise me
at all. No way any set of events will keep "mod mom" down.

Getting to know you here has been one of my singular pleasures. You are always right where the important action is and working for the freedom of the people of Ohio and our great country.

I think you have to live in Ohio to understand just how bad the political situation is and just how
hard it is to fight the tyrants in charge.

Mod mom, you are one of my real heroes, along with Arnebeck, Dr. Fitrakis, Hackett, and the other great DUers who put it on the line right there at ground zero of the new fascism. It's a considerable task and you all do so well, sometimes I'm simply overwhelmed at your courage.

I've made a silent promise to myself that I'll reveal it now in honor of your celebration here.

When Blackwell is defeated and the new Governor of Ohio is installed, I plan to be there for that ceremony. I'll find you folks and get your autographs;)

:patriot:CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR WONDERFUL WORK HERE AND YOUR COURAGEOUS LIFE!!!:patriot:

63. Well, I've obviously got this "mom" thing....
I was absolutely right on my respect and general awe at facing those challenges, but clearly my "mommy" thing got "mod" and "cat" confused. You should know you were the first "mom" I knew when I came to DU (I'm spinning like a top). And now I know why "mod mom" knew nothing about my threatened trip to Columbus;) I've had family experience with some of what you discussed to openly and eloquently so I got carried away the most important detail; but the important part is my respect for what you are doing in response to this event

I took your advice on the coffee:

and sharing that experience which is still ongoing.

Mom cat, would have never guessed the effort it must have taken to contribute such a fine presence here. You've been conducting your own recovery and healing while contributing a powerful level of intelligent, well-balanced perspective consistantly.

There aren't many people who could accomplish this much. You're far more "about" us, than you are about "me." That's a mark of real strength.

I'm not going to forget the experience you shared today. Hoping the really hard work is behind you now, and the rest is going to be easier.

Congratulations, and best wishes. :hi:

43. Thanks so much. I think that I am through the worst of it now, at least
the head injury part. I can see where I am not as able as I have been in the past, but I have a life now. And a large part of that is due to having a lifeline, a place that I could go and "connect" without being judged for my slow, erratic speech (which friends tell me I am now making up for) or my funny theraputic glasses. I felt accepted here at a time when I could not accept myself, or understand what happened to me.
The passion for justice and change here were infectious and compelling and challenged me to do the best I could with what I had. You all kept pulling me forward in ways you will never know, and for which I will always be grateful.
You all have rekindled the light where a flame had gone out, and you Judi Lynn have been a special part of that!
The physical part is going to take a while, but that will give me more time to be with my online community.
