Red wine or white wine? Which is better for your health?
I have heard that one glass of red wine a day is good for your heart. But my doc says that red wine can cause my annoying PVCs. I like both but want to maximize the health benefits of my 2 glasses of wine with dinner in the evening.

1. Probably red.
To my knowledge, white wine (otherwise known as honky wine) has more sugar in it. That's not good for diabetics.

2. I drink white wine and I am pretty well preserved, as
I am 67 years old and have been drinking white wine for over 30 years. It could be that I am pretty well pickled.

4. one glass of red wine a day?
I've been going with the one bottle of red a day approach and I feel great!

8. No side effects?
Have you had your blood pressure checked recently? If I drank that much red wine, mine would be off the charts!

9. partly joking here.
I can kill a bottle a day on the weekends (it's only a new glass every couple of hours).

However, with the amount of exercising I do (a typical weekend involves about 16-20 miles of running plus some water sports/biking/working outside), my blood pressure is "text book" according to the docs.

10. Ah, I'm betting you are in your 20s or 30s
No one I know in their mid 40s and above can do that much running anymore. It seems that everyone I know is either about to go to PT, in PT or just finishing PT! Discouraging to those of us who love sports, but the bod just doesn't cooperate with some forms of exercise as it ages. Hence many people switching to other kinds of workouts, including yoga.

11. actually...
I'm 45. Sure I'm more still and sore afterwards than when I was younger. With my daughter running cross country, I'm trying to hold off the day that she beats her dad at something for the first time...and it's getting harder and harder to do so.

12. Wish I could be more encouraging but
you just have to keep on making adjustments. I see it in my own kids, in their early 40s.

I am recovering from two sports injuries in my left arm from lifting weights. I'm still doing the leg weights and treadmill, but have to wait on stuff involving arms, including of course swimming, which I love.

Ugh. Maybe I do need more wine...

5. Tannins?
I thought it was the tannins in the red wine that made it better for you than white.

7. That's what I do now
only I have switched to a lighter red wine, pinot noir instead of cabernet or merlot. I like it better for some reason.

13. Red. At least I hope so. By the way...
is there anyone else out there who has trouble sleeping after a couple of glasses of red? If I drink two or three glasses (not more) I usually wake up in the middle of the night.

15. I wake up regardless of wine intake but
a couple of glasses of wine makes me wake up in the middle of the night, too.

I wonder about the Europeans. I travel in Europe once a year and I know they drink more wine than we do on a per diem basis. Does anyone know if they have trouble sleeping?
