Yet another reason children shouldn't be allowed in restaurants.
Yes, I'll grant you the little one is darned cute. Ask me how cute she was today at lunch when she spilled first her entire glass of Sprite and then her miso soup on me? First I screamed because of the cold, then I screamed because of the third degree burns.

Then, I had to come home and take another shower because who knew? Sprite is sticky.

1. Gasp! You're banning your own children from restaurants?
...even the Olive Garden?

But they ARE beautiful.

3. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Now, if somebody could get to work on allowing smoking back, I can be a content diner again.

7. "allowing smoking back"
Ain't gonna happen. Geez you wouldn't eat in a sewer would you? That's about how bad a smoking restaurant smells to me.

They're really worried about what substances are being put in their body.

Edited for grammar error.

16. What I mean is
A restaurant isn't exactly a place where healthy choices are being made. You can't say a desire to end smoking in restaurant is a health issue if you aren't also going to, say, keep children from ordering soft drinks, and doing away with 1000 Island dressing for starters. And if it's not for health reasons, it's just because people find it annoying, and you can't legislate convenience.

14. Think about how your car exhaust is poisining my kids...
Edited on Tue Jul-18-06 02:47 PM by MrsGrumpy
The smells coming out of the kitchen itself are enough to turn my stomach some days. Someday non smokers and smokers are going to get along...like they do in my family.

15. Tell 'em to stay out of my garage, then.
That's the only way one car could poison anyone.

19. Sorry. Not true...If you drive a car, you've no room to speak...
Edited on Tue Jul-18-06 03:17 PM by MrsGrumpy
Which is why I don't speak out. I drive. :hi:

If people are so bothered by other people and smoke, and whatever else is in the air...stay home and cook.

21. That is horseshit. Logical fallacy. I intend to speak anyway.
1. I don't drive indoors.
2. Driving serves a purpose, smoking does not.
3. The only way to get around in this country is by driving. I don't live in Washington or New York or Boston. I live in the Akron suburbs. I am not willing to be a martyr just to prove a point. On the other hand, I was not stupid enough to fall for a slick ad campaign or the limited pier pressure I got from my largely non-smoking friends. I knew the risks and made the correct choice.
4. Smoking kills about 400,000 Americans per year. That's mostly Darwinism at this point. I am unaware of any figures on automotive exhaust. Nevertheless, in addition to smelling positively horrible, thousands are killed every year by second hand smoke. A smoking section in a restaurant is like a urinating section in a swimming pool. Plus, unlike driving, there is no biological urge to continue driving after the first few road trips. People do not smoke from choice. They do it because it is more addictive than heroin.
5. You are presenting an illogical argument based on the notion that any solution must be complete to be workable. In particular, we cannot restrict (or according to you, even complain about) public smoking because we still have auto exhaust. Yet, fewer pollutants are better than more pollutants, so it still makes more sense to restrict one if we cannot immediately ban both. Fuel efficency standards will not cure global warming. Does that mean we cannot consider that? Surely a partial solution is better than none. Why not ban the pollutants we can, known carcinagens with no purpose and a documented body count, while we work on a solution for auto exhaust?
6. FREEDOM OF FUCKING SPEECH-- Who are you, my mother? I'll say whatever the hell I want.

Sorry, I have a very low B.S. tolerance on that issue.

Sorry about your sticky situation. If you used electricity to wash your stuff, you probably are not allowed to complain about any form of pollution.

I want to train my kids to throw their sprite on other diners though. I mean if they're going to be pissed off, we might as well throw food and soft drinks at them, right?

8. Train them? My kids were normal but born knowing how to do
such things. We once had to leave a restaurant because I lost control
of the monkeys. They turned the straws and napkins into projectile
spitwads.... all over the ceiling!
