What is there to gain from this bloodshed in the ME ?
Really, what is there to gain from all of this bloodshed in the Middle East? Not a damn thing. I need to go off for a minute. What pisses me off is that nobody in Washington,DC gives a care that another war in the ME just begun. This is way past a "crisis".I woke up to the news this morning as I do every morning and I just lay there in bed not wanting to go outside and go on with my day because I don't want to ignore what is going around the world. Its just not my style. I was looking at pictures on Yahoo! the other day and this picture struck me :

A Lebanese civilian escapes southern Beirut after the Hizbollah stronghold was targeted by Israeli air strikes July 16,2006. Many fans of Germany's soccer team live in the area and the German national flag was placed along the street during the recent World Cup. REUTER/Issam Kobeisi (LEBANON)

It struck me because a week ago these people were watching World Cup soccer and now their country is being destroyed and it seems to me that nobody gives a care anymore. This is becoming too common. I work with people at my job who have escaped "crisis" in Bosnia-Herzegovina , Sudan , and one man who was temp and no longer works at my job was a POW in Iraq. He was a very kind man - very hard working. He was thankful for everything that he had. I still think of them sometimes. I always ask each of my co-workers the same question " Do you plan to go back home one day, just to visit? " and they all do the same thing - they pause for a moment and their mind goes blank and then they smile and say "YES! Absolutely !" because no matter how hard you try , you can't take away someone's home. I am just tired of crying and tired of protesting because Washington does not care - as long as they are in office I am not surprised if the fire keeps burning.

And I am not taking sides in this conflict because I someday hope to visit both Israel and Lebanon - I just hope there is an Israel and Lebanon left when I am actually able to travel. I can't blame the people for their government and I won't tell how I really feel but it irks the hell out of me how these beautiful countries are slowly being destroyed. The governments of these countries are greedy and they don't know what such beauty and history they really have. And I think the same thing about every country - each country is beautiful in its own way. I just wish the governments (all around the globe) cared more about their people and their history instead of the almighty dollar. Sigh.

2. This is a nice, thoughtful post.
I agree with you. This whole situation is so...horrible. You want to shout, but nobody (who has any influence) doesn't seem to hear.

Thank you for a very moving post.

6. No its not hard for me :
Its hard for my Middle Eastern brothers and sisters Arabs, Muslims , Jews , Agnostic , Mystic , Christian because they all hurt in some kind of way. They have been hurting for too long. I still have my house. I don't have a checkpoint to go to when I go and get me something to eat. I have a passport but I don't have to keep it glued to my hand to show IDF soldiers to prove that I am a resident. My pain is minor to those in the ME right now.

5. I promise you there will be an Israel left
It's Lebanon I'm worried about. These people are being slaughtered right now for something they can't even control.

8. My friend is stuck there as we speak
His wife is lebanese, they went back for her brother's wedding... of all the examples of bad timing!
He said during the ceremony you could hear bombs going off... great memory for your wedding day.
