What are the Dumb Laws in your state?
The cohabitation ban in NC being struck down today (YAY!!, Not like anybody pays attention to it anyway) got me to thinking what are some other equally silly laws still on the books around the good old USofA.

  • Arizona - You may not have more than two dildos in a house.
  • California - Bathhouses are against the law.
  • FloriDUH - Unmarried couples may not commit "lewd acts" and live together in the same residence.
  • Maine - You may not step out of a plane in flight.
  • Pennsylvania - It it illegal to sleep on top of a refrigerator outdoors.
  • Washington - It is illegal to entice girls away from the Maple Lane School for girls.

Which goofy laws does your state still have on the books?

1. New Jersey
Drivers must warn those who they pass on highways before they do so.

Spray paint may not be sold without a posted sign warning juveliles of the penalty for creating graffiti.

Handcuffs may not be sold to minors.

It is illegal to wear a bullet-proof vest while committing a murder.

One must yield a phone line to a person if it is an emergency.

All motorists must honk before passing another car, bicyclist, skater, and even a skateboarder.

You cannot pump your own gas. (I think this is a smart law though)

It is against the law for a man to knit during the fishing season.

It is against the law to "frown" at a police officer.

In an attempt to "foster kindness" in the citizens of New Jersey, the month of May is designated "Kindness Awareness Month".

If you have been convicted of driving while intoxicated, you may never again apply for personalized license plates.

The third Thursday of October is designated as "New Jersey Credit Union Day" and citizens of the state should observe the day with "appropriate activities and programs".

Car dealerships are forbidden from opening on Sunday.

You may not slurp your soup.

Automobiles are not to pass horse drawn carriages on the street.

It is illegal to delay or detain a homing pigeon.

2. This cracks me up
It is against the law for a man to knit during the fishing season.

:wtf: He is required by law to go fishing, then?

4. I have a copy around here somewhere of our state Fish & Game laws.
I don't seem to recall anything about knitting in it. I think men need to be aware of the illegality of knitting during the fishing season. Also, what fishing season? There's something in season all year round.

13. Hmmm...
Drivers must warn those who they pass on highways before they do so.

Wisconsin has this law, too. Technically, you're required to honk before you pass. Insurance Companies like to take this law into account when determining who's at fault in an accident.

Spray paint may not be sold without a posted sign warning juveliles of the penalty for creating graffiti.

I think Milwaukee's got similar legislation. It was part of an effort to curb graffiti

Handcuffs may not be sold to minors.

Probably the result of a knee-jerk reaction to an incident where a kid got seriously hurt or killed in a situation involving handcuffs

One must yield a phone line to a person if it is an emergency.

This law's most likley a holdover from the days of party lines, where rural telephone customers were connected to the same local loop.

If you have been convicted of driving while intoxicated, you may never again apply for personalized license plates.

I think this is a good law, nothing dumb about it.

Car dealerships are forbidden from opening on Sunday.

Yeah, Wisconsin has this, too. Frankly, I don't see why these archaic blue laws are still in force.

If you have been convicted of driving while intoxicated, you may never again apply for personalized license plates.

I think this is a good law, nothing dumb about it.

I'm not sure. Seems like it would be easier to remember a personalized license plate if you needed to report them when they do it next time.

3. Maryland.....
Laws prohibit the selling of condoms through vending machines in gas stations and stores-with one major exception. Prophylactics mat be dispensed by vending machines only "in places where alcoholic beverages are sold for consumption on the premises"

In Halethrope it is illegal to kiss for more than one second.

In Baltimore it is illegal to mistreat oysters.

It's not the maid! In Baltimore it is illegal to wash or scrub sinks, no matter how dirty they get.

In Baltimore it's illegal to throw bales of hay from a second-story window within the city limits. (Loony Laws" by Robert Pelton)

In Baltimore it's also illegal to take a lion to the movies. Could it have anything to do with them getting all worked up when that MGM lion starts roaring before the flick starts?

Whaling is illegal.
Good thing, since we have no ocean nearby.

Oklahoma will not tolerate anyone taking a bite out of another's hamburger.
Another good thing, I think. Get your own damn burger & leave mine alone.

People who make "ugly faces" at dogs may be fined and/or jailed.
Lucky dogs! I wish people couldn't make ugly faces at me.

It is illegal to wear your boots to bed.
I wonder if that means with or without spurs?

26. Pennsylvania has one of the best "dumb laws"
Any motorist driving along a country road at night must stop every mile and send up a rocket signal, wait 10 minutes for the road to be cleared of livestock, and continue.

Any motorist who sights a team of horses coming toward him must pull well off the road, cover his car with a blanket or canvas that blends with the countryside, and let the horses pass.
