That Chauncey Gardiner is in the White House right now.

Please tell me I'm wrong. Please.

4. Awesome movie! Yes, Chance (or Chauncey) is a good analogy...
If George W had any other surname besides Bush, he's be a gardener...

5. One of my favorite movies. Comparing Chauncey to Shrub is totally
unfair. And Chauncy got a hell of a lot more things right then Shrub has, and was truly a good, kind, gentle, moral person. Now does that sound President-Dead-From-The-Neck-Up?

6. Movie was based on the book
by the Polish writer Jerzy Kosinski. It was published in 1971 and made into a movie in the late 70's. I used to think more of Ronald Regan when the book and movie first came out. Something eerily prophetic about Kozinski's books. His book called Steps is also scary about how societies are manipulated.

11. Kosinsky..weird cat
I thought the Painted Bird and Devil Tree were pretty great, but then I read some of his other stuff and...oh well. He seemed to get really into writing these espionage books where the main point was that the protagonist was super-rich and could therefore accomplish anything. Seemed like a super-weird turn.

12. Yeah, Being There was pertinent to the Reagan years
It's taken on a whole new meaning with *, though. I do think the Reagan connection was more apt, since Chance was an innocent, and Reagan always gave off the aura of an innocent (though he wasn't). Everyone was so willing to believe that Ronnie knew nothing. The Chimp is mean and devious, nothing like Chance.

No way Chauncey was like Shrub. Watch the last scene.

10. How ironic. I just watched that the other night.
But no... Chauncey Gardiner actually made some sort of sense when he talked.

13. Dude, Shrub is so far from being anywhere near the intellect

and good, moral persuasion and compassionate, honest nature of Chance the Gardener, that comparing the two is a total insult to Chance.

IMO.

No way in hell are the two alike. No way in hell.
