Ravers check in!
Can't let the hippies have all the fun. I used to be an old shool techno and house DJ. Name some fav tunes, reminisce about glowsticks, Mickey Mouse gloves, Cat in the Hat Hats and better living through chemistry...

I am sure DU's got some ex-ravers here...

1. I was ecstasy before ecstasy was cool.
I caught the X craze at the very beginning before it was called Raving when you could still get prescription pills. It is too bad they outlawed it.

3. What's the deal with the silly hats?
I used to enjoy techno regularly and enthusiastically until the dance floors started to fill up with nimrods who danced like they were aerobicizing.

7. Hi Loonman
Yeah, some tended to get carried away with it.

I started out back in 91, and DJ'd throughout most of the 90s and saw many of the silly trends.

BTW, I've gigged with Sandra Collins before. I'm not much into trance, but she used to spin some sweet deep house sets.

5. Hells yeah!
I didn't much get into the scene until fairly recently, but I've been into electronic music since middle school. I learned to spin glowsticks in high school (the figure eight and strings, plus some basic tosses and stalls) and it just kind of took off from there.

If we're reminiscing about music, how about that one Thrillseekers song? Synthaesia, I think. Vocal trance. It appears on a DJ Micro album, I think.

Hope I've started it up anew again... I doubt it, though. :-)

8. Cool
I'm not much into trance - it's all about breakbeats for me...

9. Foam party anyone?
Edited on Tue Dec-16-03 12:22 PM by Blue_Chill
I am listening to trance as I write this (DJ Doboy) and thinking of the great foam parties of years past. Those were the days!

Also worth mentioning would be the first time I watched Oakenfold spin at Buzz in Washington DC. Man that was a great night.

10. I have been to both of Moby's Area festivals with DJ tents
Edited on Tue Dec-16-03 01:08 PM by jonnyblitz
At the first Area festival I saw Carl Cox, Orb, and Oakenfold. At the Area 2 I saw Carl Cox again, Dieselboy, Tiesto(who I also saw at Avalon in Boston) and Digweed. I have also seen the popular house DJ Irene twice.

When I lived in San Francisco in the early 90's I used to go to raves all the time at some interesting places. Once in an abandoned warehouse after climbing underneath a chainlink fence and another one that lasted two days on some beach. The abandoned warehouse was pitch black with the thundering music just thumping away. You could only see shadows and faces with the occasional lighting of matches and the glowsticks etc...

My love for dancing overshadows me feeling way old when i attend since many of the attendees are seriously young...

My current fave is an unknown DJ (unknown here in the states anyway) from Slovenia named Umek.
