3. No, been gone for ages!
My father was from Elgin and we used to go there. What a blast from the past.

Oh well, as they say you can never go home.

6. Yes, I rarely get out there any more.
Last time I was there (2 years ago in September) I drove down the street where it had been on my way to Mt. Hope Cemetery for a family memorial mass. Could not even figure out exactly where it had been, though I thought of those great sandwiches in that little dive as I drove down the street. Thanks for a great memory.

13. I grew up around the corner from Morris BBQ in Elgin-

the one on Larkin Ave on the west side(we lived behind Wiese's Boulevard).
My grandmother owned a second-hand store in an old dog-n-suds about a half-block from the Morris BBQ on the east side- on Villa st.(my uncle also had a warehouse/office for his Canfield's distributorship over by there).
My cousins and I used to love to watch through the window at the pig turning on the spit in the smokehouse.

14. I went to the one on the east side.
My great-grandfather was a foreman at the old Elgin Watch Company. I remember the pig turning on the spit, loved to watch that too.

5. Smokey Joes in Crete, Il.
Little bar and grill with a real charcoal pit and the best damn ribs I ever ate. Need my wife to dab the sweat off my forehead like a nurse while I eat them.

Don

7. Ribs 'N' Bibs--Hyde Park
Carsons is pretty good too, but it's different--not as smoky.

9. There was some place on Sheridan just north of Diversey...
...that looked interesting. Forgot the name though. Plus I've never eaten there. Plus it could be closed down; I don't know.
