which, yes, it's my way of informing you that there's a decent chance that it will NOT grow back normally, esp. if it has been torn off before and/or you've had surgery on the toe before

never give up hope, i had several fingernails torn off as well and one of them took over two years to come in normally under the artificial nail, it came in wrong (too high) many times so that it kept getting torn off again -- but today it is completely normal and has been for several years

I don't think I'll bother with that. I'll just keep wrapping it in hopes that it grows back normally. I have ugly feet to begin with, I don't need it to be worse.

Did the nail come off completely?

Are you in pain? Did you go and get it examined by a doctor?

4. It actually happened a couple of weeks ago.

No, it didn't come all the way off. Just most of it. Yes, it was painful. No, I didn't see the need to go to the doctor.

Looks as though the nail bed is OK. There's still a little bit of pinkish color at the root of the remaining bit of the toenail. I have a feeling that it might grow back weird-looking though.

7. way too soon to give up hope, my friend

my toenail was originally torn off in fourth grade, and i've had years at a time where it came in normally, esp. after i had surgery when i was a teen-ager

alas, my toe was badly injured again a few years ago and it looks like this time it might not ever come back but who knows...

13. Keep it really clean so you don't get fungus growing as the nail regrows

Lost a big toe toenail years ago when a log fell on it. Have been battling toenail fungus ever since, (and it can make your nail become thick making things very uncomfortable.) I was completely unaware at the time (young) that it wasn't just a simple regrowing process.

If you can, get checked out by a doc, and find out what you need to do to promote healthy regrowth :hi:

That does HURT!!!!!! I was pissed at work one day and slambed(?) the freezer door...slid right across my big toe.
Wow, That was 15 years ago and I still remember that moment.:grr:

I guess I lucked out because it healed pretty fast. I hope yours does the same.

14. I hauled my fingernail out by root with a lawn mower nail bed and all.

I takes months before it's healed enough to take
even a moderate amount of pressure.

I was basically left handed for a year.

Plus I discovered the root of a fingernail
is actually square. Both me and my foreman
almost puked and passed out before he drove
me to emergency.

The ER nurse asked me what was wrong when I
showed up. I held up my finger, which had a
foot long string of coagulated blood hangng
from it and she freaked too.

Altogether a pretty eventful day.

Beauty of it was due to my trade I got three
months off in the summer with workmen's comp
and got to go to the beach every day with my
two year old son.

Gotta love that !!!!!!!!

When I ever I lost a toe nail it wasn't no where near as bad as that. The longest it ever took back was about a week to a week and a half.

18. I've lost several big toe nails due to impact injuries from running.

They just go black and fall off after a week
or so. But when you haul the nail bed out that's
a whole nuther. No wonder it's a form of torture.
