An odd legal question
I had an odd experience tonight. I was watching TV when a cop came knocking on my door. He asked me if was a Ryan C. I said no. He asked if Ryan C lived there. I said no. I then stated a Ryan lived here about a year and a half ago but I didn't know his last name. He said fine that Ryan C. had given this address on his drivers licence when he renewed. The cop was left with the impression that Ryan C was the Ryan who lived here. The problem is I now know that is false. It was a Ryan H. who lived here before. I don't know the cops name nor even which type of cop it was (sheriff, city cop, etc). My question is this. To what lengths, if any, am I required to go to correct that misimpression? He does know my name and my licence plate which he ran. I am assuming I have no obligation since he gave me no name or badge number but am unsure.

1.  Don't Worry About It
You'll never hear from Ryan C., Ryan H., or that cop again.

2. Was he a real cop?
At least on TV, they always give you a card with a number on it if you come up with any more information that might be helpful.

That seems like a weird thing to have a cop visit your house, when a phone call would have done it.

Might be worth calling the REAL cops and seeing if they know what's going on... with your address and Ryan C's full name, they could probably look to see if there's anything going on with him.

3. I would second this
I think it's worth both a) finding out if that guy even was a real cop, and b) if he was, it's just nice and good citizenship to offer the information you remember.

Becuase if this guy isn't a real cop, the cops are going to want to know there's someone out there impersonating one.
