I took a tour through cold-war era bunkers in West Berlin today

Wow. People in West Berlin would have been fucked. Royally. Okay, everyone would have been fucked, but still.

One was simply an old subway building, first re-designated shelter by the Nazis, then re-designated nuclear war shelter in the 80s. Eek. Muscle powered air filter system, no food, no water.


The other one was of the "in plain sight" variant:


The plan: Drive two trains into the station, then drop four-ton doors on the tracks. Then remove the wall facade and open the doors to the entry area, the infirmary and the storage area.
At least this one has sufficiently plausible facilities: hospital, beds, fallout showers, water plant, air/condition, power plant,...

And yes, both bunkers are still designated active and stocked.

Although it is sorta cool: the city is pretty much completely covered with defunct subway tunnels and stations, bunkers (old and new) and other strange stuff.
