Meaning a non-American beer?

1. I have friends who drink Red Stripe.
Maybe it's my non-discerning palate, but it tastes like flat Budweiser to me.

3. A Canadian friend of mine once described Labatt as
"Old man beer".

Kinda like PBR here in the States.

5. Canadian Old Man Beers:
O'Keefe Ale
O'Keefe Extra Old Stock (aka "Extra Old Sock")--which is actually a malt liquor, IIRC
Labatt's Fifty
Labatt's Blue
Molson Ale
Molson Golden
Carlsberg Double Diamond

Most military establishments and Legions only carry Blue and Golden (and the "light" versions). I think O'Keefe is out of business --thank god-- (or absorbed into either Molson or Labatt).

Cool, hip Canadian beer (major breweries):

Labatt Extra Dry
Black Label
Molson Canadian/Canadian Ice
Molson Rickard's
Sleeman

I really should get HEyHEY into this conversation. And Enigmatic. And GiC.

I'm a bit rusty in beer talk. I actually like PBR (which is no longer available here). It's the Frank Booth in me.

11. Combined they also make an excellent black & tan.
I'm surprised you didn't make a comment about the fresh ground pepper. Everyone always freaks out when they see that, but then they try it and realize it's good. We call it "The Colonel" at the bar I frequent.

In other words it's f**king close to water!

I'm the resident Campaign for real Ale member round here, and shall be at the Great British Beer Festival in Earl's Court next week.

20. Quote from Sam Calagione DEO of Dogfish Head
A country that is drinking 80 percent of its beer as light lagers made from one of three breweries is in need of a little upheaval.

Amen
