1. There is no such thing as a 'nasty' restaurant, only nasty patrons.

9. For you, Shell Beau, who is rich beyond our wildest imaginations...
Eating at a 'nasty' restaurant is eating at some three-star place, ordering almost-top-of-the-line salmon with an almost-sort-of-french waiter who will do anything to see that your every need is taken care of.

Not my first choice for a restaurant but am going with a friend who's a bit picky. Anyway, you can bet I'm going to THROW THE HELL DOWN on an appetizer platter! Mm... chain-licious. :9

24. Throw down on the salad bar too!
Ruby Tuesday is a garden-variety casual dining restaurant with too much mass-reproduced crap on the walls, but they have a killer salad bar.

Stay away from the beer, tho--four dollars for a mug of Bud Light? Plus, the one in Fayettenam and the one in Greensboro (the one across the interstate from the Home Depot, that is; it was on the same side of the street as the hotel so that's where I went) only have Bud Light and Miller Lite on tap. I drove 200 miles and talked about windows for eight hours, and all they have to give me is LIGHT BEER?

Ewwww... x( TGIF's is a revolting flair-centric crap restaurant but at least they usually have Killians on tap.

20. What's a nasty restaurant?
The only ones I've ever been in that were nasty were one in SGV (San Gabriel Valley) and one in Roslindale, where there were cockroaches crawling on the walls.

22. Oh!
I don't care for Red Lobster, but I do like Cracker Barrel and Olive Garden. Cracker Barrel just needs a slightly broader menu, and Olive Garden is just good in my opinion.

I think one thing that I like about chains is if you travel and aren't sure about local cuisine, you can always predict what the chains are going to taste like. When you're spending $20 on a meal, it makes it less guesswork.

I do try to scope out new restaurants a lot of the time, and do research when I can, but sometimes you don't have access to info, and the sign of a familiar restaurant helps.

If it's any help, there are two chains that I really don't like--Chilis and Appleby's. Chilis food is always too salty, and Appleby's just doesn't taste right for a lot of things, and they're expensive on other things.

25. Well, let me tell you, if on occasion you have a hankering for an
'American Breakfast' (eggs, sausage, etc.) you should count your blessings, at least in regards to the sausage, because I promise you, in some parts of the world they simply don't have a clue.

30. Me, too
It seems like this place is overrun with food snobs. Just 'cause a restaurant is a chain doesn't make it nasty, and just 'cause something is locally-owned or "independent" doesn't make it good. I'm glad I don't have the "refined" taste buds a lot of DUers seem to have or I would have died of starvation long ago!

37. I live in a college town.
Most of our options around here are chains. When I go out of town I have a few more options but here in town if my daughter and I want to go out one night to eat we usually have to pick which chain we want.

Our top chain isn't even as fancy as some of the ones listed before. This is our favorite chain in town to eat at:

http://www.planetsub.com/flash.html

At least when I eat there I know the food is decent, much of the produce is purchased locally in all their shops, they donate money to environmental causes to and food programs around the world and they have a decent veggie menu, when I'm in the mood for that.
