I'm scared. Dear husband has finally admitted
he wants to see the doctor. He has had a lower gut-ache for about 4 months, Not for medical advice! I just know other ladies must had had this happen. I'm glad he is going to the dr.

1. Don't let him go to a doctor!
They always want to find something wrong with you.

4. My dear Redstone.........I am sorry....
But that is not true......not with the ethical doctors, anyway.....

Those folks want to fix what is wrong........

Pain is the body's message to the person.......

And it needs to be investigated.

11. Nah. If I ignore it long enough, it'll go away.
Always worked for me before.

...most of which are eminently treatable. So stay calm, okay? :)

Good luck to your hubby.

2. Me, too.
Probably nothing to worry about. If it were terribly serious, it would have gotten worse, the pain that is.

Best to you guys.

7. Yes could be the job, but this condition has usually presented itself with
body aches of the external sort, so for iron-gut this is a little unnerving.

15. That would be my fondest hope. Because other stuff is worse.
I think this is probable because he has a decent-pay management engineering job that is totally in limbo - it is in an indefinite holding pattern. Poor thing is making money for not working - he does not like that. But we need the bucks & in this day, who's gonna argue?

12. it's good he's going
I suffered for three months with numbness and pain in my leg. I was tripping over my foot (drop foot) as well as other symption and I was terrified that I had developed MS. When I went to my regular doctor, he recommended a neurologist. After numerous tests, I was relieved to find out that I actually have degenerative disc disease and not MS. While I will still have to address my problem down the road with surgery, I know I won't be incapacitated by the disease. Somehow, knowing what the problem is made it so much easier to cope with it.

13. Good point, even though it contradicts my post.
MS is a damn good thing to find out that you don't have. (There's some awful grammar right there, but I bet you know what I mean.)

Right now, I'm trying to find out (along with my family) if my beloved mother has ALS...I would kill for MS, if that was the alternative.... x(

Edited on Wed Aug-02-06 11:01 PM by bicentennial_baby
ALS is FAR fucking worse than MS...It's a goddamn quick death sentence...My dad has had MS for 34 years, my Mother is his caretaker as well as the center of my family, and my Mother could die within months, if she has ALS...so, no, relativity has little to do with it, imho, sorry...

25. He's not eating anything with Olestra is he?
In some people it causes symptoms mistaken for colon cancer, colitis, and all kinds of nasty stuff.

If he is worried enough to go, he should, but don't panic about it. Most of the serious diseases you are worrying about would not cause any lower gut ache until a lot of other symptoms were pretty advanced and impossible to ignore, too. So it's probably diet/stress/aging related. Don't take this as me advising against getting the exam, just me telling you not to be scared (I know that's easier said than done). Most of the time it's not what you fear, so the exam will take a load off your mind. Good luck to both of you.

26. My point is that I have gently hinted thet he may need a checkup
as with many men, he is very reluctant, it has finally gotten to where he feels he should go. He is 47 & has gotten numerous physicals for his job, BUT not a colonoscopy or a PSA (prostate test) & it is just a good idea & I am proud he can admit he needs it. A checkup, that is, with an excellent female DO.
