A co-worker of mine died tonight.
http://www.wftv.com/news/9618351/detail.html

He was 26. His father works in my section. I can't imagine how he feels tonight, losing a son.

He was an easy going guy, who had a calm energy about him. He will be missed.

It is terrible for a family to lose their kid, no matter if they are grown or not.

3. Yeesh...
I guess if you have friends or family in LE, you have a little nagging feeling in your head at all times that each day on the job could be their last, but I'm sure that doesn't suppress the shock when it actually happens.

7. You just never know what will happen.
What is so hard for most people in Law Enforcement is not being able to control these situations. It was chance that he happened to be on the road the same time as that driver. It wasn't just chance that caused the driver to hit him, but chance got them there. That leaves everyone involved going through "what if's" in their minds.

I just feel flat awful for the family.

10. oh god
I am so sorry. That is a horrible thing to have happen. Death is eventual, but it's far worse when a parent outlives their child. That's not the natural order. Your co-worker is in my thoughts.

11. You Have My Sincere Condolences
In 1999 one of my teammates committed suicide. It was one of the most painful ordeals of my life, and I still grieve for Dave.

I am so sorry you are experiencing this pain. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers.

13. Thank you everyone for your responses.
These are the things that happen in life, but are so sad when they do happen. I think about his family, and how at this time, their lives have truly been turned upside down. Then, I look at the outside world, and how it keeps going like nothing happened. It is cruel.

17. Wow, condolences.
I worked with an officer in Austin (he did security where I worked) who lost his son in the line of duty, too. It was devestating to him. I think it was harder because his son did the same work he did--so many emotions, a lot of survivor's guilt, even, and the fact that his pride had turned to such anguish. His father will be in hell the rest of his life. Do anything you can for him.

Again, sincerest condolences.

18. Funny thing, death.
Takes away from a woman everything she ever had, or will have.

21. How tragic
but to be pissed off at this kid for being illegal is pointless. It could have been anyone. But I understand when you are hurt, you lash out at the injustice of someone dying young. Thats the tragedy.

I worked with someone who's daughter was killed in a plane crash. She was a flight attendant.
