..::Sports thread::.. How did your NFL team do in the off season?
My Redskins (hate the name) did great if you ask me.

We needed speed at WR and we got rookie Taylor Jacobs and Laveranues Coles to do just that. We needed a back that could run faster and catch out of the back field and I think we did ok with Trung Canidate.

All in all our offense looks much better then last years, gone are the sissy ex florida QB's and in their place we have a much improved Ramsey and a good back up in Rob Johnson.

Defense still looks good although replacing Big Daddy this late will be difficult. Then again that greedy bum only got 16 tackles last year so I'm glad they showed him the door.

1. You heard it HERE first... Da Bears = SUPER BOWL
Edited on Wed Jul-30-03 12:03 PM by a_random_joel
Kordell Stewart is the first mobile and healthy quarterback the Bears have had in years.

The addition of Desmond Clark at Tight End gives us a new dimension.

The return of all players impacted by last years' injuries will bring us back to 2001 form.

A brand new state of the art stadium, which will be anointed on MNF with the blood of the rival Packers.

Signed Urlacher and Safety Mike Brown to long term contracts. Which means most of our "star players" are locked up for the next 4-5 years.

Great draft...

Super Bowl.

3. Steelers are looking pretty good
The only real question was at safety, and we finally signed the #1 pick.

Will Bettis make it to the end of the season? With Zeroue around it doesn't matter.

Finally ending the Kordell Konteversy will be a BIG morale booster. You Bears fans better not book those Super Bowl hotel packages just yet. Yes Kordell is the most mobile QB you guys have had in years, but he's also prone to making silly mistakes and getting mentally bogged down for the rest of the game.

5. kordell stewart.. quarterback! surely you jest!!
Worst thing they did for that kid was start him at QB. Shoulda left him in the slot, and developed him as a wide out.

mi dos centavos.

6. In his defense
When he's not trying to make a play happen that isn't there, he's good. When he's off his game its terrible. He gets mentally shaken way too easy to be a championship caliber QB.

this season?

Stewart with the bears
Ramsey with the skins (you know dis!)
Plummer with the broncos
Joey Harrington with the lions
David Carr witht the (aack!) Texans
or someone else that will break out this year?

wishful thinking, of course! But, the guy is pretty decent, and just needs a little help up front. An issue not addressed during the off-season.

2. Good Riddance To Big Daddy
Edited on Wed Jul-30-03 12:07 PM by Cush
he really didn't help the team. They should have cut him long ago and kept Gardner.

I'm not sold on Trung just yet. I would have liked to have seen them use a combo of Betts and Watson.

They will definately have to go with Defense in next years draft, mainly upfront.

On Edit: Don't forget Chad Morton and John Hall. Not sure who will be punting, but at least some of the long running Special Teams problems have been solved.

4. I agree
Big Daddy had to go, and as it stands the team can stay together for about 3 seasons so if the offense works we will be free to draft defense only next year in the first three rounds.

The browns did well last season and as long as your coach stops hiw love affair with couch you should be good. You need to trade him for a good WR.

The Browns had one of the best receiving teams inb the league last year.

they didn't get much press though did they? That's annoying.

Either way Couch is too good to sit and could be used for draft picks or player trades. However I don't think he should start for the Browns.

What would you suggest the Browns do with him?

With the acquisition of reviever Peerless Price, the Falcons offense looks unstoppable.

Michael Vick, Peerless Price, Warrick Dunn, TJ Duckett.

Playoffs are a safe bet.

*IF* Peerless Price can make the transition from 2nd to 1st reciever. He will face the best corners this year, something he didn't have to deal with last year.

They rebuilt the defense to go along with a pretty dynamic offense; although losing Peerless Price will hurt some. Besides, Phil Mickelson said the Bills and the Falcons and who am I to argue?

27. Depend who you ask (RAIDERS)
Our mentally ill center that cost us the Super Bowl is still on the roster, although listed as Unable to Perform

Gannon is still feeling sharp and has another year of greatnes in him

First round choice rookie cornerback hurt day one of practice

We got Dana Stubblefield from the 49ers

Wide reciever rookie Teyo Johnson is going to be HUGE

The Raiders also signed linebacker Sam Williams, running back Justin Fargas, defensive end Shurron Pierson, receiver Doug Gabriel, tackle Dustin Rykert, safety Jeremy Shabazz and receiver Ryan Hoag.

See you in the playoffs dudes

28. Go Rams!
IF the O-line doesn't get the crap beaten out of it in the early season again, then the nutcase fundie we have as starting quarterback should stay healthy and the worlds greatest running back should run up the score AND if the defense gets it collective head out of it's arse and keeps the other team from scoring...
(Too many ifs. But they are my team, dangit, and I will cheer no other as long as they have a playoff chance)

Made some great free-agent pickups to improve the defense, plus really beefed up the O-Line. (Easily the two weakest areas from last year.) With Culpepper and Moss, you give them enough time and they WILL burn you.

38. C'mon, hope springs eternal in the purple heart of every Vikes fan
If Denver can go 0-4 in the Super Bowl and then win 2 in a row...

If TRENT DILFER can QB half a team (defense only) to a convincing SB win...

If the TAMPA BAY BUCS can win the big dance...

then why not the Vikings?

It's all part of being a fan. The heartache of all the big losses is only there because the Vikings have also had tremendous success over the years. We're never in the hunt for the #1 draft pick, in fact last year was just the 3rd time in franchise history we had back-to-back sub-.500 seasons. C'mon, this is the year!!!

:)

After being a lifelong Niners fan ... having me leave the Bay Area for Eugene, OR and Mooch moving to Detroit has done it for me. I'd rather support Mooch and UO home-boy Joey in Detroit than the fucked-up-franchise-that was (aka Niners).

I feel sick having just typed this ... never thought I'd leave my beloved SF ... but there you have it.

It is evident that the Tuna is introducing some well needed discipline to this franchise. I think the Boys had another pretty solid draft, and defensively, they will be good. They will definitely have one of the best secondary's in football. Plus, Ekuban and Ellis are in the last year of their contracts, and I look to see them have a better time at the pass rush. Of course, Glover is tough up the middle.

Offensively, they still suck. Quarterback is the main problem. The offensive line has a way to go. The addition of Glenn at receiver will help, but the ball has to get to him first. Not having Emmitt is a plus, no distraction about records this year.

Tuna will pull another good season out of his hat, but in 2004. Another draft and a full year of the new offense will bring positive results and get all of you haters back to hating again.

God bless Tex Schramm and Tom Landry.

There are two kinds of NFL fans - ones who are Cowboy fans, and the others who wish they were Cowboy fans.
