13. It was actually in case of bird flu.
The suggestion was that we stock up on canned goods and water in case infrastructure is disrupted by bird flu. Actually, it is a good idea.

16. Oh, stocking up for any reason's a good idea
I think it's the "under the bed" thing that makes you go "wtf?".

Will the nation's pantries and cupboards be inaccessible in case of bird flu?

17. But it was suggested that the tuna be stored UNDER YOUR BED.
http://www.thehealthierlife.co.uk/article/3571/birdflu.html

If your local grocery store is fresh out of canned tuna fish, don’t be surprised. The other week Mike Leavitt, US Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS), offered a strategy for coping with severe food shortages that would surely go hand in hand with a bird flu pandemic. As reported by the Associated Press, Secretary Leavitt said: “When you go to the store and buy three cans of tuna fish, buy a fourth and put it under the bed.”

He also suggested that we should buy powdered milk. And store it where? “Put it under the bed. When you do that for a period of four to six months, you are going to have a couple of weeks of food.”

No problem stocking up on tuna, just in case, but why under the bed? Why not Ritz crackers stored in the hamper? Or potable water kept in your dresser drawers?

19. When we had the Y2K scare, I bought tuna every time it was on sale.
After 2000, it took me a few years to eat up all that tuna.
