4. The Peabody is a hoot.
I stayed there on a business trip and as I recall it was a decent hotel in terms of amenities and services and it does have the cute little duck parade. It's convenient to the Rendezvous if you're interested in getting some Memphis BBQ.

17. also a beautifully restored classic old hotel. And the food is
pretty good too. The duck parade is a blast.

You know they march in to "Stars and Stripes Forever" aka "Be Kind to Your Web Footed Friends"

6. Stay at the Peabody
Or stay at the Raddison which is right next to the Peabody. Be sure to go accros the street to the Rendevous for ribs!

7. I'm very pleased with the accommodations I booked through Hotwire.com.

I'm staying at a 4 star hotel overlooking Fort Lauderdale Beach for $59 per day.

:hi:

i would stay at gold strike or horseshoe if i could get a suite, so i guess my "area of town" to recommend is robinsonville

19. seriously, depends on why you are there, and where you need
to be as Memphis is very large and spread out and traffic is gnarly. Peabody is downtown, and the Rendezvous is also, along with other good places to eat etc.

Graceland is out a bit from town.

Now I am trying to remember some of the good places I ate when I went there.

for Italian: Coletta's or Grisanti's, definitely. Both are awesome

also I found a weblink for a place I used to LOVE: Paulette's, which was also featured in "The Firm"
http://www.paulettes.net/ I hope it is still open...they bring you a basket of hot fresh popovers the second you sit down and their food is very good.

20. If your going to be downtown/near Beale
Edited on Thu Aug-10-06 10:17 PM by Sgent
the Peabody, Raddison (accross the street) and Crowne Plaza are all convienent.

There are also quite a few convient budget motels on the other side of the expressway (on or just off Union Ave).

Robinsonville/Tunica is good if your gambling -- Goldstrike & Grand Casino have good quality inexpensive rooms.

Figure out where you are going to be, and stay near there. Memphis is a large city geographically, and it can take an hour to communte from one side to the other with NO traffic -- during the week a 2 hour commute from one end to another is easily within reason.

Finally, if you are doing a bit of everything (downtown, Tunica, Graceland, etc), the airport is very central, so look for something nearby.
