Your* taste in guys?
So what do you like? I don't want to make this a poll, because the answers are complicated. I'll answer for myself in a reply.

*The post I'm halfassed copycatting related this to gender and sexuality. If you like guys feel free to answer my question regardless of your gender or if they're your primary interest. I'd love to hear any perspectives on this.

5. pretty sure I nailed the first two
but I am not sanguine about the probability of being copacetic on your final criterion since I might say that I am one of the least benightedly unintelligent organic life forms it would be your profound lack of pleasure not to be to avoid meeting, but modesty and copyright laws would prevent that except in a hypothetical sort of way.

3. I am, as I have posted before, a sucker for idealism.
Principle is a big attraction to me, I'd have a hard time loving somebody I couldn't respect or whose judgement I couldn't trust.

In terms of appearance, I'm a sucker for pretty eyes and broad shoulders. Other than that, there's really no body type or coloring I find more attractive than another, as a general rule.

4. I like really intelligent men.......
It's good if they are musical too......

A sense of humor is good.........

And they need to be well educated too.......

And confident in themselves......

I like men who like sex........

And who know how to please their partner........

Broad shoulders, blue eyes and beards are high on my list too......

Just sayin'........

7. Intelligence is my number one thing I look for in a man
I want to be able to converse with him, exchange ideas, talk about what's going on in the world.

However, I also want him to have a sense of humor, including a sense of humor about himself. And I want him to be strong enough to accept my strength, and not feel intimidated or turned off by it. I like a man who is sexy (according to my own definition of what sexy is), and a bit naughty/nasty, as well. I like a man for whom my pleasure is nearly as important to him a it is to me. I also like a man who is kind and respectful, both of himself and of me and others. And also important to me, I like a man I can trust, someone with whom I can share my true self with, and not be afraid of his reaction.

It may seem a tall order to some, but not to me. It's what I like, and what I want.

9. Honesty Is # 1
I've been burned in the past by liars, cheaters, deceivers, etc.

After that I would have to say that intelligence and a good sense of humour. Curiosity about the world around them, an appreciation for art and music.

Not really hung up on physical looks so I really haven't a "type" as far as that goes, but I do have a thing for red hair!

Edited on Fri Aug-11-06 07:38 AM by ThomCat
"twinks," thinner guys, not too athletic, not too furry, though there are exceptions to all three of these.

I don't really care about how much hair they've got on their heads, or what their jobs have, or how tall/short they are. I don't require a certain level of intelligence, but I tend to like guys who can debate and discuss with me. I tend to prefer non-religious guys, but that's not absolute.

Funny is a big plus. He's absolutely got to respect that I'm a vegan. I've never dated a smoker. I don't date party boys because I'm a homebody.

12. Slender, blond, kind of geeky, long hair
Computer science majors, D&D players, computer gamers, sci-fi readers - I like that type as long as they are reasonably functional in the real world too and have some confidence and are at least somewhat cute. A friend of mine calls it "chic geek". I'm a chic geek kind of girl, and I like chic geek guys. And they like me too (one married me two years ago).

What I can't stand in guys: arrogant, brainless, frat boy types, overly muscled, main concern in life is making money or obsessing over their expensive *insert whatever material crap here*, bodybuilders or fashion divas who spend more time looking in the mirror or going to the gym than they do reading books, and really good-looking guys who think that their pretty faces give them the right to use other people or avoid developing conversational skills. If I were single again, I would avoid all those guys like the plague.

So basically I love the kind of guy society thinks can't get chicks, and hate the kind of guy society thinks that all women love. Go figure.

Um....did I just say, "package"? :yoiks:....

Seriously....it totally depends on the guy. While I like guys with body hair (especially chest hair...YUM!!! :9), a hairless guy with intelligence and a sense of humor is not a deal-breaker. :D I'm attracted to all sorts of guys with all sorts of different characteristics. :)

Okay. I like men who havea a great sense of humor, laugh alot, are warm, conversational, sincere, intelligent, genuine, confident, and attentive.

Physically, I appreciate lots of different aspects, but generically, I like men who are my height or taller, dark, muscular, and I particularly like good facial bone structure, and a nice nose. Although I'm pretty much describing my husband, so maybe he's influenced my preferences. I also like tattoos and nice cologne.

17. A limitless, natural, unchecked sense of curiousity
Edited on Fri Aug-11-06 11:42 AM by Sugar Smack
about the world & about people; it really makes for an eloquent storyteller and good listener. I love a man who's never finished learning. Courtesy to the point of gallantry goes a long way with me too. A good sense of humor and playfulness is necessary IMO!!! I love guys who are brainy enough and smart enough to know to be kind; these are confident men. I also really enjoy the game of getting each other's references and rolling with them wildly in conversation. I also like a guy who can accept and offer sincere appreciation.

Physically, I don't really know; if a guy has the above qualities, what he looks like to me is BEAUTIFUL.

Obviously, I'd want someone smart, funny, and who treats me well, but here's the other thing:
The more pretentious, macho bullshit that surrounds a man- the worse of a lover he is. It's always the quiet ones who don't go around advertising their "studhood". Always.

53. Confidence is my #1 turn-on...
...with the caveat that he's gotta have a good reason to be confident, rather than just being self-absorbed. Ambition, attentiveness, good grooming, and intelligence are important as well. He's got to want to make me happy. Major turn-offs: immaturity, insecurity, lack of self-control, possessiveness. Physically, I don't like a lot of body or facial hair; I have a definite preference for dark hair and dark eyes, but that's not a make-or-break requirement. Absolute no-no's are smokers, and, need I say it, Republicans.
