Best thing about the new Airline Restrictions.....

I'm not going to be standing there, waiting in a line on the airplane while some asshole tries to stuff his/her oversized suitcase into the overhead compartments. Every flight there is always a few of them on there even after airlines were suppose to crack down on the size of carry-on luggage.

Those People? They make me mad too. :hi:

I wouldn't want to put that in the hold, it would get destroyed. But suitcases?

I couldn't put my stuff up there. Golf clubs are another. I know people spend a lot of money on them, but can't they ship them or something?

The funniest thing ever was the family that put a mylar balloon from disneyworld up there and it popped midflight. Talk about a mild panic. :D

and sent on a later flight. You know why? We had a bunch of pro golfers on the flight and their golf clubs were far more important than anybody's real luggage. We get to the baggage claim and it was just golf clubs and cases of pineapples going around. It's like, "dude, what the fuck?" And then they made an announcement that our luggage would be coming in that evening due to some big golf tournament.

It was a family vacation (my mom got remarried and we all went on the honeymoon like a dysfunctional Brady Bunch) so I didn't pay for the ticket, but my stepdad was arguing trying to get some compensation from Continental. It was to no avail, even though they're the only airline he flies. You'd think they'd want to keep him happy. He's a member of the President's Club and he flies with them at least once a week on buisiness.

I've traveled with clubs. I always check them, then you get them at the other end in oversize luggage areas. I know you used to be able to take one or two clubs on the plane (although i've never done that). But i can't see how one would take a set on board. That is WAY too big to be carryon.

You have to be careful of course, my band and I for example bubble-wrapped the shit out of our guitars and bass, and it all was fine.

I have some for keyboards, and have one flight certified case for electric guitars. If i was going to travel with an acoustic, i'd use the Martin case but i wouldn't take my Martin. I'd take the Takamine and put it in that case. But, for the electric, i have one case that is nearly as protective as an Anvil case. So, if one has to take a guitar, get an Anvil and check it as luggage!

You guys have hit on one of my pet peeves. If anything, the size restriction for carry-on is WAY TOO LARGE an item.

Last time it happened to me so I took his 'under-the-seat' space since all I had was my computer bag and an oversized purse (although not something massive - I usually carry small purses, so what I used on the plane would be normal size to everyone else.)

Personally I think the airlines are a bit harsh with this "no-liquids" stuff mainly beacuse I drink anywhere from 1-3liters of water while I'm on the plane (depending on the flight). I went to San Diego I had two unopened bottles of Poland Springs backed and drinking one while I was waiting for the plane.

I'm re-booking a flight for Canada through my company's travel group. I'm going to ask the person who helps me with this rebook if they can somehow put a note in the special needs that I require extra water. Fortunately it's only Philly to Toronto so the flight won't be too long

those suitcases belong to the assholes who sit at the very rear of the plane because it's just "too much hassle" to carry them a few feet further. :eyes:

They are usually my lifeblood when flying -although I do often watch the inflight entertainment and glance at the magazines from time to time. I'd be lost without them -especially on one of those thirteen hour or longer flights

start drinking before you get on the plane. Take a xanax when you get on the plane. At the first beverage offering, get some wine. Then, pass out for the whole flight, with the exception of briefly rousing to poke at whatever "food" they've given you.

The WORST thing about long flights is those passengers in front who put their seats back for about 90 per cent of the flight. When the meals come around, the stewardess always asks them to put their seat up because of the limited tray space you have when the seat in front of you are down. So they put it up until the stewardess leaves and then they put it back down as soon as she is out of sight :grr:

Perhaps that's another good reason to take up your suggestion

Soon as the seat belt sign goes off, here comes the seat. And it stays reclined until the cabin crew member tells them to put it back up for landing.

So my solution works well. I'm a tiny person (5'1" and about 105lbs) and I'm way scrunched in those coach seats. I have no clue how average or large sized people handle it.

We're only banned on liquids. When I go to Canada in October I'll pack my laptop, my travel book (Memoirs of a Geisha), wallet, travel papers and hopefully a lip balm that I can use when my lips dry out. As for bad breath I could get some of those Listerine strips and perhaps the airline can put some hand moisteriser in the bathroom to help us out a bit

I have to cart a laptop, scanner, and mucho genealogy papers with me pretty much everywhere I go when meeting with cousins to finish my book. The scanner is always in a box in my suitcase, but not the laptop.

If they say we have to pack laptops, I'll have to go get some hard-side luggage!

...a couple of days ahead of time when going to stay with family or friends for a week or two. Then do the same when we head back. I've also done this if we buy something a little large or fragile while traveling out of town. Send it to our home by UPS instead of lugging it around on the plane or the airport.

Except I was sufficiently fed up when I had to start taking my shoes off *every goddam flight* that I think I'm just never gonna fly again.

Gotta find a Chinatown bus that goes to Philadelphia.

Go to Penn Station and take the NJTransit NorthEast Corridor rail to Trenton. Once in Trenton take the Septa Train (I forget which one but it's the only one that goes to Trenton) from Trenton and you'll be dropped right down at 30th Street Station (or any of the other stops that are downtown Philly)

I do it all the time. If you take off-rates and buy round trip the Trenton-NYC can cost like $15 total and then add in $7ea for Trenton-Philly ($14), so that's $29 total. If you buy your NYC-Trenton ticket one at a time (and it's peak time) you might have to pay $10/each way

I never know whether it's going to take me 2h15m to get to Stonington or 4h30m. It sucks and I'm not looking forward to starting the drive in about an hour. I need a helicopter.

Not having to listen to the Flight Attendents beg some pompous ass to shut off his/her electronics so the plane can take off. I was on a jet that actually stopped mid-taxi to the runway until the jerk took off his head phones!
