I am about 300 miles from my mother who lives in a small town in northern Wisconsin.

And since I don't have the financial means to sue the State of New Jersey, it will be quite some time until I find out.

105. Me, too. But my real mother is 550 miles away.
No real care one way or the other about finding the one who birthed me. Acts of nature don't create strong bonds with me.

That's where my mum is, too, for 20 years now. It still sucks, but it gets a bit easier.

When she was still here we lived 12 miles apart.

Edited to add: I believe the lady who birthed me lived in Florida; I found someone with her first and middle names who was the age of my birth mom who was listed in the Florida Social Security death index. She and my mom were both from NC, and I believe she was probably shipped out here when she got "in trouble," as they said in the 1950s. She was 17 when I was born and there never was a legal adoption, so it was a bit of a brouhaha when I accidentally found out about it in 1981.

I hope you were not really little when you lost her. I am 48 so at least I had her through my adulthood. Not that it makes me miss her less but I am sure it is much worse when a small child loses a mother.

117. 21.66 miles away right now
6 years ago I lived in a different country from her. 3 years ago I lived on the other side of the country from her. Now we live a little over 20 miles from each other (not bad for TX) but I'll probably be leaving again in the next year or two. Not because of her though...if I had my way I would always have her by my side. :(

128. You know, I read this whole thread...seems like most people want
to be near their moms. I think that's great. Without really tallying, that was my take. Whether or not their mom was alive, or far away, the majority seem to wish they were together, at least a little more.

I don't know why, but that surprises me. Guess I have a small circle of friends and two of us (including me) aren't close with our mom, I thought the averages were relative.

I'm pleasantly surprised. I can honestly say, I wish I wanted to be closer to my Mom, and vice versa but that's as positive as that gets.

I could live in the next town and she wouldn't come visit. She refuses to drive outside of that town. She flips out if she goes over 30 MPH. We will never live in the same town. She has no sense of boundaries.
