2. I'm reminded of something Alistair Cooke once said.
At least I think it was Alistair Cooke. When commenting on the endless examples of debauched behavior in the imperial families in the mini-series "I, Claudius," he observed that if there had been family counselors during the reigns of the Roman emperors, they would have had to work in shifts, like miners.

There aren't enough counselors in the whole of North America to handle this crowd.

7. one historian commented during a documentary ...
"The Roman Empire in the First Century", I think it was -- that even if the Julio-Claudian dynasty hadn't had some tendency towards mental illness, living in such a fraught atmosphere (where it was rare for people to reach adulthood without being assassinated by other family members) would certainly have pushed them over the edge.

I think of this statement whenever I see Georgie visiting with his folks.

4. I can't believe you guys are giving Karl a pass on this one!
To be that nasty for so long (even since he was a college kid, from what I've heard) -- he has got to be at least as messed up as Cheney and Rummy!

5. I think Bolton is the sickest fuck.
But Bush & Cheney are a close second. Bush has a serious case of the ism's, and Cheney is a sociopath.
