Quick! Without Looking... Do You Know Your "+4" Zip Code?
And do you use it?

I think I need to experiment by sending two identical envelopes to the same address on the same day from the same mailbox---one WITH the plus-4 and one with the old-style 5-digit zip code. Which one will arrive first? Or will it be a tie?

4. and will the PO put the same zip +4 on your blank one?
cuz I occasionally get different +4 add-ons.

I do however pride myself on being able to read a barcode (it's a binary on-off thing)

...5220. I'd post more than that, but I found out that the +4 breaks the APARTMENT NUMBERS down for my complex. So, by sharing the whole ZIP code, it would be easier for someone to hunt me down. For some of our lovely ladies of DU that would be OK, but for the freepers...not so OK.

8. HA!
Of course I do. But not for the reason you think!

I live in a teeny teeny town (no news there) without rural USPS delivery. Everyone has a PO box, mail won't come to the house.

But, of course, we have physical street addresses. UPS and FedEx won't go to the PO boxes, and some companies get confused. So our +4 zips are our PO box numbers, and only get used when we use the street address... with a zero in front, because we're small. ;)

15. +4 in small towns
Wow, I'd love that one to work here!!

Do you know if that's a regular Post Office practice or just a smart thing someone in your local office thought up? I'm in the exact same boat here in Jackson Hole (PO's with no home delivery, and street addresses so FedEX, UPS won't go to boxes.) I'd love to just give people one address and know stuff will get delivered either way.

19. I'm not sure
...ask your postmaster! :)

We've been here for awhile, and ordering online we just put both street and PO box. The UPS and FedEx guys know where to go, and the USPS understands which to ignore.

18. I Have TWO +4 ZIP Codes
I rent a mailbox in a local Postnet store in Pueblo West - the +4 there is 1532.

I also rent a mailbox at the main post office in Colorado Springs. The +4 there is 8381.

I use them to make sure the mail gets there, which is why I rented the boxes in the first place.

It think it means, like, my house or something -- just like the street address does.

But I always use it, nevertheless.

25. No idea.
The mail still gets here so I don't care to learn four more numbers. My brain is full enough; I'd hate to forget that one time with whats-her-name....
