but don't want to send an e-mail out in case you should appear too pretentious? Especially if you don't have anything in particular to say? I'm not even talking romance here....

I've gotten email from some of my favorite economists and writers, a few great musicians (Steve Jones, Jerry Casale, Pete McCann), and some DUers whom I esteem highly.

I urge you to just send the email. Don't worry about sounding pretentious. People enjoy feedback. And if your target doesn't write back, so fucking what? You're not out anything.

We're all just people on this planet. Nobody is better than anybody else. Go for it.
