Why blaming Clinton for 9-11 is nonsense
I was just over at www.freerepublic.com, that wingnut site full of holiday cheer, and they were discussing how Clinton is responsible for 9/11.
1. They said Clinton should have arrested Osama in the Sudan. Agreed. But The plans for 9-11 had already been made according to the Al-Q members in American custody. Besides, Bin Laden did not have daily contact with the cells. they were given the mission and went about it on their own.
2. Bush was president on 9-11. His security team failed to do anything about the warnings that had been accumulating for 8 months.
3. Bush did not listen to Clinton's team when they told him that Al-Q was potentially the biggest threat to American security.
4. Bush did not do anything about Al-Q in his first 8 months as Pres, until after we were attacked.

2. If you ever....
...confront somebody who blames Clinton for it, ask them whose fault is Somalia. When they say Clinton, ask why. Whatever reason they spew, ask why he's blamed when Bush sent the troops to Somalia, and Clinton had only been Prez for a month.

Then make the correlation between Bush IIs bogus non-responsibility after serving for 8 months. They HATE being exposed as hypocrites.

4. And if Saddam were indeed the issue, Clinton was ridiculed for anything
he did to try to contain Saddam. Rethugs just wanted to make sure Saddam was still there when they put Shrub into office (that was planned back in 1998 behind the scenes, that Bush would be the nominee) so that he could go after him and avenge Poppy.

5. Ask him why
Republicans accused Clinton of personalizing the fight against terrorism too much on one man every time he wanted to go after bin Laden.

Then explain to them that Clinton was presented with a plan to go after bin Laden after the Cole attack, in December of 2000, but could not act on it in time, so passed the Clarke plan on to Bush, who set it aside and did nothing.

From the Guardian:

""If we hadn't had a transition," a senior Clinton administration official is quoted as saying, "probably in late October or early November 2000, we would have had as a presidential directive."

However, Donald Rumsfeld, the defence secretary, was more interested in the national missile defence plan, and the new attorney general, John Ashcroft, was more interested in using the FBI to fight the "war on drugs" and clamping down on pornography. In August, he turned down FBI requests for $50m for the agency's counter-terrorist programme."

7. I noticed someone in freepville said that if Clinton had put the
airline security measures into place 9-11 would not have happened.
Of course they foget to mention that it was President Al Gore and his commision that made the security plan and it was the republican congress that voted against putting them into place.
Just don't bother them with facts.
