DU Ladies - how often do you get your nails done (manicure) ?
This is a sign that I am coming out of my wallflower shell,I am about to get my nails done for the first time in my life. Sniff I want some acrylic french tipped nails - not the long ones but the natural normal looking ones. Just curious to know how much it normally costs.

1. Professionally? Once or twice a year.
I give myself pedicures (or my husband does) regularly, and I get a professional one once or twice a year. I rarely wear polish on my fingernails.

2. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT go to the asian places that use the drills.
They will eat your nails. They are cheaper, but most do a shitty job. Find a salon and go there. Make sure you make sure they use a file and buffer.

3. I haven't had my nails done professionally since
my sister got married nearly eight years ago. I do 'em myself fairly often, though.

5. They tried to give me a manicure for my friend's wedding
They couldn't do much for me. My nails are thin and break easily. My sister has the same problem. She gets fake nails. I cannot get fake nails or wear finger nail polish where I work so I just file and trim them myself when I think about it.

7. I have a pedicure every 4 to 6 weeks, and my pedicurist is the
greatest!
for $30, I get nails trimmed, cuticles trimmed, tops of nails brushed and buffed, feet soaked in a little whirlpool tub, and about 25 minutes of serious foot ankle and leg massage with exfoliating cream/salts. Then hot steam towels, and a dip in the warm paraffin bath for each foot. After the paraffin cools and is peeled off, then he polishes my toenails.

The manicure is $15 and I do not get polish although it is included. I just have my nails buffed and boy do they shine! Looks like I have had a French Manicure. I get the paraffin dip on my hands too. Wonderful, wonderful.

And the shop is in the mall so they keep mall hours, and it doesn't smell like a nail shop.

11. When they finally drive me insane.
I have dry skin and live in a dry climate. I can produce a yard of cuticle in about an hour. Usually, I can trim it, but sometimes it drives me crazy.

I can't stand acrylics... they make my fingers feel really weird. But my mom does them weekly, and she spends about $25 a week for them, I've had gel silk wraps done once at a training school; the total cost was $12 and the results were fabulous-- except that the wraps made me just as weird feeling.

12. Every week but I do it myself
I have natural nails that are hard & grow easily so I've never had fake ones.

I trim mine every week at home because they get too long. I also do an oil treatment weekly because I garden so my hands take a beating.

13. Series!? First time in your life?
Edited on Mon Aug-28-06 01:16 AM by quantessd
I paid for a manicure once. It wasn't worth it.
I got mine in a medium-rent San Francisco neighborhood. They looked at my sloppy nails and rolled their eyes at me. But, my friends were there, so I went ahead with the manicure.

IMO, nails are a chick thing. Guys don't give a rip about nails, but whatever. I try to paint my own nails, and I think I do a good job.

edit: in summertime, toenails especially!

16. It isn't that weird.
Fingernails and toenails are really not what people (okay, not most people) judge us by, no matter what Cosmopolitan says.

IMHO, if you care about being attractive, it's your body, clothes, hair, and face (not necessarily in any order). Oh yeah, and PERSONALITY!
