Did you ever have a favorite teacher?

at any level? Elementary, secondary, college, anywhere (and here I'm thinking of some who may have learned spirituality from someone they still admire)

Just wondering.

I have googled him and found his snail address many times before, but haven't written. It's past time. I think of him frequently, and always when I hear Jackson Browne. I was with my teacher one evening at an elementary school talent show - Browne's niece was in the show and he came to see her. The niece took my teacher and me backstage to meet Browne and they shook hands and my teacher said, "Jackson, you wrote my life." I didn't know what that meant until I grew up.

His name is Mr. Baker and in the seventh grade he taught me my most cherished talent: to play the guitar.

I love Jackson Browne. Only got to see him once perform, but that was memorable.

Miss Barb Pepera, back in seventh grade. I wrote a paper (about what I don't remember) and got it back when a lesser grade than I thought it deserved.
She told me "John, you're the best writer in this class. I expect more from you." And those two sentences encouraged me to become a writer (though not the best one I know either here nor in the real world), meet a lot of interesting people and get into a lot of cool sporting events for free.

He was my college violin teacher. We kept in touch for 25 years, until he died in 2001. I still miss him. :cry:

He gave everyone their own piece ... something we could play at any occasion without warning. A week after I got married, I was in ensemble practice when he started playing my intro. Mind you, I hadn't practiced all summer long while I was planning my wedding. So I looked at him, as if to ask, "ME?", and he nodded. I played my piece ... not too badly, I might add. When I finished, he asked if I knew why he did that ... it was because "your young husband was just outside the door looking into the window." :loveya: Oh, my piece was an Italian serenade. :D
