My sister died nine months ago...
...and I'm still bitter about it. Sorry, I need to rant just for a bit...she was only 54, but very sick, and of course had no health insurance. She had been a diabetic for over a decade, and by the end couldn't even afford insulin. She was seriously depressed, and of course couldn't get any anti-depressants. Her physical and mental problems made it impossible for her to be able to find or hold jobs, and of course this just made her depression worse. God knows she had her flaws--I knew that better than anyone, I lived with her for years...she often neglected herself, and didn't take basic care of herself. But this was due as much as anything to a sense of hopelessness. And her death, when it came, was *not* necessary, and could have been prevented with some basic care. Which our society of course doesn't provide... I helped her as best as I could at the end, which wasn't much--I did pay her rent a couple of times towards the end, which helped her a little. But it was a drop in the bucket compared to what she needed... Sorry. I don't mean to vent like this, but whenever I hear people say our health care system doesn't need basic reforms, I can barely contain my rage. My sister died from lack of a national health system--it would have been easy to save her...and I miss her...

1. I'm so sorry, Arkham.
It's hard enough to lose someone you love. But to have lost her under these circumstances...

I'm glad you felt comfortable enough to vent.

3. My dear Arkham House........
How terrible for your sister.........

And for you too.....

What happened to her is nothing short of criminal...

My deepest condolences to you......

What a waste of a precious human life!

All the while our so-called government says it's prolife..... :puke:

4. This both breaks my heart, and leaves me furious!
I'm sorry for your loss, and for the way we, as a nation, failed your sister.

Feel free to rant as necessary!

5. Thanks, guys...
...It was the anniversary tonight, and I just felt I had to say something...here, at our home-away-from-home...I'm trying to avoid bitterness. Sometimes it isn't easy...God bless you all...and again, thanks...:grouphug:

6. That is so sad
I'm so sorry she couldn't get the help she so desperately needed. And, you are absolutely correct in saying health care needs reforms..major reforms.

I'm sorry for your loss. It sounds as if you did try to help her. Hugs..

8. Vent away...
It's grossly unjust that your sister died for lack of care.

May I suggest that you vent these feelings to your reps? It may be like talking to a brick wall; but you never know when something will touch someone enough to make them do something about a problem...
