New to the Lounge: Will anyone welcome me?
I have been having a hard time getting people to respond to my post. I know this happens a lot on DU, and can't for the life of me figure out why that is.

How does one go about getting people to respond?

I just posted a poem (in GD) I wrote last year about Hurricane Katrina, and it is sinking like a lead balloon. Such a shame, I was hoping someone would respond and no one even notices.:shrug:

So, I thought I would try the lounge to see if anyone here would respond to my post. I guess time will tell.

GD can be a tricky place when looking for responses. Here in the Lounge it's generally much easier, particularly if you post a nude photo.

Just keep responding to posts that interest you, whether here or in some other forum, or start posts. People will begin to recognize your name. And as for GD, a lot of posts sink VERY fast, so don't take it personally.

Great poem, by the way. I saw it and am still thinking about it.

Don't worry about slow responses... Even with 90-mumble thousand of us, nights can be a bit slow and if people are like me, they're going "hmm..." and "erm" and sounding like they should be lecturing on Post-Georgian poetry and going about like an English professor in black jersey (female) or tweed with leather patches (male).

And do remember that even though there are 90,000 of us, that can be a rather crowded space.

Glad to see you, and hope to see some more of you! Did you know there's a writing forum?

but it doesn't seem like many people go there very regularly.

And yes I do realize that DU is a very large crowd. That's why I decided maybe the lounge would offer a more loving embrace:hug:

Welcome... and don't get discouraged..

You can spend hours researching and writing, only to see it drop off the edge of the earth...and yet someone posts and deletes it with a "oops..wrong forum" and that post will get a hundred replies:)

The late-niters seem to respond more..maybe it's because nightowls are a special bunch :hug:

33. Well everyone has given me a very warm welcome,
and that means a lot to me. It's good to know that the Lounge is a place where you can hang out with a crazy bunch of people. I tend to stay up till the wee hours in the morning. Grab some sleep, get up work on my projects, come to DU, get a nap, and start the cycle all over again.

I do have a question though. Am I suppose to reply to everyone individually or do like I am now and responding in one thread?

I guess if I responded to each post it would make the post count larger.}(

36. do what you feel
there's no protocol or official etiquette when it comes to this stuff. if you wanna respond to each post, go ahead. there are some Loungers who will respond to every post in a thread they have originated. Others don't. It is really up to you.

thanks for the reply. I haven't spent enough time to figure out how to respond to everyone. I feel like I should reply to everyone. I'll experiment around and make a determination as to what I should do. I don't want to alienate my new friends!;-P
