Don't take your car to Gyp-e lube.
They are crooks. :grr:

Is Your Mechanic Cheating?

Claim: TV news investigation shows Jiffy Lube outlets charging customers for automative maintenance work that was never done.

Status: True.

1. Yep.
Dumbasses stripped the bolt for my oil filter then tried to blame it on the previous oil change, which was done at the dealership during scheduled maintenance. I only used J lube because I needed to go for an extended and unplanned trip with my car, and wanted an oil change before I left and the dealership was booked utterly solid.

Also, avoid Brakes Plus. They tried to tell me that I had a leaking rear master cylinder and would need several thousand dollars in brake work (I actually only needed new pads...)... The interesting thing is that my car doesn't HAVE a rear master cylinder.

2. Wow - now that I think warrants a call to the BBB, and/or whoever
certifies mechanics...

4. I did better... I reported it on Craig's list and Angie's list.
Word of mouth is far more damaging to a business than a call to the BBB around here; the BBB has essentially no teeth. A business can get a lot of negatives, but if no one ever calls them about it, the BBB has no way to get that information to the consumer.

And yes, I was utterly, royally pissed about it. Midas ended up getting my business, and they've treated me well. I know that part of the problem is that I am female, 5 feet tall, obviously liberal and Goth; I look like someone who only knows how to put gas in a car and sometimes drive it. I'm not, however; I re-built my first car from chassis up, except the major transmission work (those I don't mess with) and the dismounting and remounting of the engine (Even with a block, I needed more muscle than I have, so a couple of my guy friends and my dad did the remount work, but I did the valve job). I know cars, I just don't have the time to indulge myself getting greasy anymore. But I still LOOK like I can be taken, and there are several companies locally that are more than willing to do so. The local Midas is woman owned, and they get a lot of repeat business from women who have been scammed by other companies in the area.

3. Our local one is a fundie - the shop is covered in RW crap
I went once and they told me I needed something else done and I later found out it was a scam. A $20 oil change cost me over $70. I tell everyone to avoid that place.
