I'm sort of leaving DU at the end of the day....
for 5 weeks. :D Going on paternity leave, so I won't be at my computer nearly as much.

Yay 5 weeks off work :woohoo: :bounce:

3. It's paid to 70% of my salary by the Québec government.
Edited on Thu Aug-31-06 08:37 AM by Bassic
This only works in Québec, although the rest of Canada can divide the standard one year parental leave between the mother and the father (so can we). Québec sort of runs it's own version of the program and added an extra 5 week paternity leave that does not reduce the duration of the regular parental leave. I get 5 weeks, my wife still gets her full year.

This rocks so damn much! :headbang:

Edit: My company does not give me a percentage of my salary though. It gives 10% to mothers, but shit all to fathers. Yay for equality.

10. cool
So the company doesn't pay your 70% directly, that comes from the gov't, and the company is required to hold your position right? cool. Though I wonder how much the company get's taxed directly for that...whether there are exceptions for small business, etc. (I'm a small business owner...If I had to pay an employee for that long to not work I'd go under)

Very cool though. Enjoy your time home with the new critter. I think 1 year is great for at least one parent (generally the mother so she can breastfeed without pumping, recover from the birth, etc) I bet after 5 months though you're gonna be dying to go back to work. ;) Unless you hate your job.

11. My company does not contribute anythig more than their regular income tax.
Edited on Thu Aug-31-06 10:47 AM by Bassic
They won't even give the 10% of my salary that they give to women who take parental leave. Cheap bastards. :grr:

Edit: I know I already mentionend that, but I'm very annoyed by that and it helps. :)

5. Enjoy!
Five weeks! Consider yourself fortunate that you have a country with programs such as that. Nowhere. at least that I've ever worked, in the US, provides such a great benefit. Funny story: When I only had 2 weeks of vacation, my in-laws who were visiting from Germany kept asking "How many weeks vacations do you have?" After the 5th time, I finally said, "I'm serious-- I get two weeks...and that's all!" They just couldn't grasp the concept.
