Why do people go onto threads they don't like and post

Something like, "I think this thread is stupid." "This isn't news." "How can you people talk about this crap. yada yada yada (ie a celebrity getting married, Rockstar: Supernova, JonBenet).

I just don't get it -- if it's so stupid and unimportant... wtf are you posting on it?! Just ignore the thread or hide it -- no one is forcing you to read it.

I especially like the people who enter a thread and ask "how can you possibly care about this when thousands are dying?", or "I guess some people just don't care about the upcoming election" or some variation of this. It's as if we can't think or be concerned about more than one thing at a time.

People post countless items here, each day, about which I do not give a rat's ass. I usually ignore the thread and move on to others. It's a pretty easy solution.

I've seen patrice about a half dozen times from when she used to be in sister 7. she's got an amazing stage presence for someone so tiny. it baffles me as to why she was there as well. i still have "Beautiful Thing" (her original song) running through my head.

I was a buyer for Virgin Retail. Long story, except for the fact it just hit me a few weeks ago who she was, and that I HAD met her!!! She also did at least one Lilith Fair. She and little Bjorkie are great songwriters. I've been told Storm's original songs are good, too.

I know -- Ryan annoys the HELL out of me. He's not cute, his singing is only okay, and he is a total toolish, angst-ridden poseur circa 1993. Plus, he's a sexist jerk, a hypocrite, and just soooo annoying.

and let me explain why. For example..
When the whole Coulter thing started up again over her remarks a few months ago (when she was making the rounds of the shows pimping her book) I started a thread telling ppl to stop talking about her. The reason I felt it needed a thread was because I wanted to shake ppl out of the cycle of being angry and arguing about her. Sometimes you need to get ppl's attention that what they are doing is only feeding the monster with energy. Yes, many need to figure this out on their own, but sometimes a gentle shaking by a friend is enough to wake one up. Do you see what I mean?
I said what I had to say and shut up about it. I have not revisited the issue since.If they choose not to get the message, NOW it's their problem, but I felt I owed it to my many friends here to at least give them a chance to back off and see the big picture. Coulter was just a distraction tequnique,and for awhile a very effective one. Those that are here to disrupt took it and ran with it. Sometimes it is easy for even the best of us to get caught up in that trap.
So, some days I WILL start just such a thread...but it is few and far between. I really don't bother anymore, there are too many "disruptions". If someone can't see it for themselves, I probably can't help them. It's overwhelming these days.
I understand what you are saying, but have been "guilty" of doing what you are talking about. I hope you know I do understand that in most cases it is a waste of space.

when I felt like a topic doesn't belong. The Jon Benet thing for example. Its not a political issue. Its just complete bullshit. Maybe there should be a separate forum for celebrity and sensational crime stories that the media focuses on. Otherwise, it overcrowds a forum that is supposed to be about something else, which is disrespectful to other readers. If you want to focus on whatever the lastest media obsession is then go to one of the forums sponsored by the corporate propaganda outlets.

I have no one on ignore. To be honest, I had one person about a six months ago on ignore but it bugged the crap out of me to see the "Name Ignored" in posts.

If I see a thread that perhaps, isn't quite my speed, I just hide it. I've been through alot of shit this past year but fortunately it seems that what was bugging me a year ago has been subsiding and actually pretty tolerable as of recently.

But even still - I have alot of posts hidden just because I know I would be too tempted to get really snippy in them. And if you're read anything I've posted in GD/GDP you'll know I'm the queen of Snippiness.

I have huge amounts of people on Ignore. I love it. It makes me feel like a malevolent god -- zap!!!
