As long as this does not turn into yet another rehashing of people's personal problems, and it does not turn into a moderator/admin-bashing thread, we will leave this thread open.

For those of you who don't know, progmom, Misunderestimator, and nothingshocksmeanymore received an extremely clear warning that if they did not keep their personal problems off of DU, they would be banned. The moderators and admins spent hours *every day* trying to sort out issues related directly to their personal, off-DU drama, and it eventually just became too much to deal with. We were neglecting our other responsibilities to this website in a futile effort to mediate a peace over something that has nothing to do with the mission of DU.

Last night, the situation came back to DU, and the parties involved started yet another flamewar about it. We had no choice but to follow through with our ultimatum. We're sorry it had to come to this, but we cannot waste anymore of our time (especially in an election year) attempting to play mediator for people's love lives.

As usual we will not rule out the return of these members, but first they need to find a way to make peace which does not involve the moderators and administrators of Democratic Underground.

Please keep this thread positive, and it can remain open.

It was rather nasty. I had no idea that that kind of stuff was going on, but having looked over the thread, well, it was pretty bad.

The purpose of the original thread was a wonderful idea too. It was about falling in love. I don't know how a thread about falling in love could turn so bitter. Love can turn bitter, I suppose, but, bitterness is not what love is about.

I do understand that, while we all come here from time to time for some personal comfort, the purpose of DU is primarily political, not personal.

I hope that on all levels - DU included - that what went wrong can be healed.

I do remember the warning and I'm sorry it came to this pass.

MisU and Progmom, I will miss both of you as well. Though I've never met either of you, I have enjoyed your posts...particularly Progmom's music-related ones, which supplied so many great additions to my iPod.

I always find it sad when people can't find peace, and believe me, I've gone through that on this forum myself, so I know what it feels like. And I also know how good it felt to let all that old stuff go, and I hope they all three can experience that too.

She made DU, for me, right from when I first got her. Her and SOteric were the first two to embrace me from Day One and Teena is still the only DUer I have spent any real time with.

She contributed a lot -- too much, sometimes, to her detriment -- to the serious mission of DU and of the principles for which it stands in the wider world, but I'll never forget the fun we had, either.






NSMA was a classic. I hope she can come back. But Teena is in my life forever now.

I'm not even sure when I joined DU, now. I thought it was in 2001, but now I'm not even sure of the year and it's like I have some kind of amnesia that's blanked out everything on DU before July of 2003 (kind of a personally turbulent time, has been the last six years, so that doesn't help). Lots of good stuff languishing back in DU1...

You have to really dig - there's no way to sort or search.

I was gone for about 2 years though, and basically my entire life changed. I'm much happier now...but we sure did have fun back in the day. :D

(we don't talk often, but when we do it's always a treat) and mentioned that thread in light of the recent Lounge thread concerning DU discussion topics that we remember fondly. That was fun. :D

DU's not going to be the same, for me. Then again, it's changed over time and it will always be changing. That's both its strength and its downside. I'm glad I know Teena offline but, even if I didn't, I'd still be grateful for her contributions to this forum over the years. And there are some very good people left here, still, and more coming every week.

Her intelligence, insight, spirit and wit make her one of those people you look up to. I think she really hasn't been here for some time, in a sense. DU is poorer for her loss.

I remember our friendship during the early years of DU and how much I enjoyed reading your posts and interacting with you. The forum seems to have grown much larger now and I kind of lost touch with you but I still immensely looked forward to reading your posts and hearing your point of view -you seemed to be one of the people who were the life and soul of the forum. I remember how much I wanted to meet up with you when I came to the US in 2003 and how sad I was that I learned that there was an opportunity to meet up with you but that I hadn't realized that you were in that part of the country when I was making my travel plans. I'd always held out hope that I would meet up with you next time that I'd come back to the US

I wish you success and happiness in both your personal and professional life and I do hope that one day you will return here -things just won't be the same without you

NSMA was one of the first DUers that caught my attention here - I mean - that NAME alone was an attention getter!! I realized by reading her posts I had much to learn about how things work and what's up in the world. Her awareness impressed me.

She was also one of the first to intimidate me because of that same knowledge :D.

I've learned so much from DU and her. She's one of the reasons I hung around here.

Then to become a friend was an added bonus. :bounce:

I will not say goodbye as it never is for my friends I hold dear to my heart.

Out of all three I talked the most to Progmom. I remember posting on some interesting threads of hers. MisU and NSMA both contributed significantly to the life here. But as was stated above. This just a message board. There's a lot of life to live and experience offline.

But I generally like everybody. :)

I hope all of you find peace. I don't feel like I know enough about the situation to make any sort of informed judgment about whatever happened, and it's not really my business to anyway, but I hope things work out for the best for everyone... whatever that ends up being. I remember posts from all three of you, and you all made some great contributions to this board.

I am sorry this happened to you--so sorry you are gone. In all the time I have known you, you have been a caring and helpful person on DU. I never saw you attack a weaker person--never once saw you hassle people when they were down or be cruel to another DUer.

I'll always appreciate that about you. And your concern and calls when my dad was ill--I'll always appreciate your genuine concern for my family.

I'll never forget my first post at DU and our discussion of the meaning of language. Remember that? Does our lexicon shape our perceptions or do our perceptions shape our lexicon? Oh, and don't forget: I warned you in 6/04.

She had been around forever, was well known and had a lot of friends and a lot of respect in the forums, but she never treated newbies like second class citizens. She made me feel welcome and commented on my posts when I only had a few under my belt when I first showed up here.

We are very different in a lot of ways, Teena and me. She's the California liberal and I'm the Alabama moderate, but we have found all kinds of common ground here over the years. I consider it a real blessing to have met and gotten to know her here at DU. We now have a friendship that transcends DU - I am thankful that her absence won't mean I lose touch with her, but I think that DU has lost one of the most thoughtful and passionate voices it ever had.

I wish all three the best wherever life takes them. Mods, thanks for leaving this thread open so folks could say goodbye.
